Default extra 300 vs edge 540

I am looking into into purchasing a new aerobatic size plane in either a .40 or .60 size. Does anybody have any insights on the flight characteristics of either plane and how they compare. thanks

I don't fly .40 size planes but in the GS vertions the Edge would be my choice for 3D and the Extra for IMAC or Pattern flight.

Edges are probably known to be more 3D,but it all boils down to manufacturer and weight and most of the way you set the aircraft up.Engine, prop,CG,electronics and abilities etc

Jack, I have had both edge and extras. In the .60 size, if you are budget minded, seagull models has both in ARFs for less than $200.00. I had the edge, I put a 1.20 OS in it and it flew awsome. I have seen one fly with a .91 FX also, and it was awesome. Very stable plane, with the straight wing, but difficult to properly perform some of the more complex aerobatics, becuase of its stability. The extra, with the slightly swept back wing tends to be more agile, but can have a tendency to snap on you in 3-D throw setups, if your not careful. I think the Seagull extra is smaller, using a .61 to .78 engine range in two stroke and .70 to 1.00 in four stroke. I saw one at my local hobby shop for $145.00, the edge was $174.00. I am thinking of purchasing the extra and putting a Saito 100 or .91 in it for cheap practive plane. I have an extra 330L 33% for this summer. Hope this helps get you started. Neither airplane will dissappoint you.
Happy Landings,
MikeBoyd
