Which plane? GP/PW, H9 Edge, DP 330, yak 54, Please help!
I would appreciate some advice here. I am planning on competing IMAC next year, but need a plane. I like all of those mentioned in the subject, but am unsure which one to go with. Any input would be much appreciated. Thank You.

Of course it's not out yet but I think of the ones you listed my choice would be the H9 Edge, powered by a DA 100. Now if you want to get really serious, get a Carden 330S and put the same DA100 in it.

Thank you for the feedback. I am not familiar with the Carden planes. You don't think the 100cc would be too much for the edge?
Thanks again for your input

Hello,
Also try Aerotech. They have a big selection of designs. They build and fly excellent. I have there 35% Velox 2 years now and the 81" velox 50cc size for 5 months. Both excellent designs. They are at www.aerotech-rcmodels.com

Thanks you for the response.
I have some time to decide, so I will continue to gather info and opinion before making a decision. I hadn't even thought about aerotech....thanks!! I'll check it out!

I have the DP Extra 330 you mentioned with a DA 50. I like it a lot. It flies smooth and does 3D pretty well. Has plenty of Unlimited vertical with the DA. Its a great plane. Just have to keep your speed up a little bit with the wingloading when landing, but other then that its great.

How does the smaller 28% Velox fly on the DA 50? I have a brand spanking new DA sitting here looking for a home and I am trying to decide on the Velox or the WH Extra Special.
Thanx in advance for your help
Brian>> You didn't mention what class you were going to start in. Hve you looked at the Wild Hare 28% Extras and Edges. I am flying Basic, just finished my first full contest season and my ride for next year will be an EF 68" Yak 54 with an OS 1.08 2S or Webra 1.20 2S. This plane only comes out around 8.5 to 9.0 lbs!

carden or composit arf 3.0 or 3.1 extras are what most of the unlimited guys are flying. id get a 2.6 yak or extra, or carden extra if your looking to go the 35% DA 100 route. if ur serious i would choose one of these. john

I just got a EF Yak 54 also. I am looking to put in either a YS 1.1 or 0.91 FZ (supercharged). I dont know which has better power/weight ratio. I also have a new saito 100 in the box.
The craftsmanship on the little yak is awesome!
Oh, yea, I will be trying basic class next year.
Thanks for your input!
Take offs are optional....landings mandatory

Some people must not bother to read the posts in a thread before posting....
He said he is starting out next year and someone recomends what they are flying in Unlimited?
I'll do some assuming here and say that you should be flying basic your first season no matter what level pilot you think you are. I'll also go out on a limb and say that 50cc gas is appropriate for Basic and Sportsman and practice and experiance counts for more than the plane you are flying.
Of 50cc planes to consider I'd recommend the GP Patty Wagstaff for it's cost and availablity. Wildhare Extras for lower wing loading and the above mentioned Velox looks promising as well. The DP Extra is a great plane but DP himself does not recommend it for a gas engine and a OS 1.60 is a perfect match and would make a good plane for IMAC as well. The EF Yak isn't available (still) and would need a pipe as does the smaller Comp Arf planes (which are probably the nicest of all of these).
For your first IMAC plane I say the 50 CC range is a good choice with a DA50, BME 50 or Brison 3.2 engine.

BB, I just went with the ones previously listed and gave my own recommendation. If he is up to it, and has the rescources, I still think the Carden would be the way to go. Nobody says you have to fly a little plane just because you are in Basic. 'Course if he wants to go on the cheap, I fly the Pacific Aero 1/4 scale Laser 200 with a Saito 1.20 on it and it is an excellent flying plane for either Basic or Sportsman. I have a Carden 30% Extra for when I make the move up. Until I beat the crosswind thing I'm staying in Basic myself, even though I fly better then a lot of the guys flying in the more advanced classes.
Running before they can really walk, I guess.
