4 x 8411's or 4 x 8611's for rudder on 40%er
Hi all.
Just wanting some opinions please.
What should I go with?: four 8411 servos or four 8611 servo's on the rudder surface of my comparf superExtra.
Whats the main difference between the two servos? Which is the preffered servo for my other surfaces as well please anyone?.
Thankyou.

You can get the job done with power to spare with only three 8611's. You would have to have four 8411's to approach what the three 8611's can do. At this point, for a big gas aerobat, there is basically no reason to buy 8411's unless you can't get 8611's. The 8611's will not wear their gears out immediately like the 8411's are proven to do. The 8411 is a really nice servo if you convert it to plastic gears (make them into an 8411SA) and use it in something smaller. I took my entire stock of them and use them in my 2M Pattern birds. No question about it, go for 3 8611's for this application.

8611 all the way. Same price, better gears, and more torque, no weight penalty. They are a smidge larger though. You usually have to do some trimming of the servo opening to get them to fit, but they are still smaller than a Jumbo servo. Get the 8611 for everything.

Have you thought about running the single Seiko servo that a few of the other 40% guys are using. Seems it's lighter than the 3 8611, easier to setup and has alot more torque.

Hi 'Stiks'.
Yes I have thought about the Seiko servo for the rudder. I'm still not exactly sure which way to go.
It would be good to have more input(discusion) on the Seiko servo. From what I can see it looks really good. Much easier than than ganging three or four servo's together for a newbie like me.It is analog however.
At this stage I am going JR 8611's all round. Four on the rudder. I also have an SWB self adjusting four servo tray sitting here.
Should I use the SWB self adjusting tray guys? or just use the standard mount and linkage setup already installed in my superExtra?. Keep in mind I already have the new tray sitting here, and four new 8611's for it.
If I did put the SWB tray in, would I just cut out the original carbon tray, and re-mount my SWB tray in the same spot? or should(could) I mount my SWB tray further back in the fuzz, so if I decide not to use it I can pull it out and still use the original carbon mount?.(also saves hacking into original mount)
The Seiko is still on my mind!, it does sound much more simple to install, and heaps of torque!
If I new its accuracy was as good as what my four 8611's are going to be, then I might change my mind.
Best regards

Hi there... At present, I fly a Comp-Arf Super 3.1 Extra in Unlimited in IMAC & you definitely won't need any more than (3) 8611's for your rudder. I actually use all 8611's all round, with one servo on each elevator.
It does a proper Knife Edge loop with no problems at all. I did not use the standard rudder set-up that came with the plane but used the SWB rudder tray with the bell crank already built in. If you would like some photos of what I did, just let me know & I can send them to you. There are also some modifications to the airplane that I would recommend for you to do.... Since I now have 191 flights on mine & she looks as good as when she went on her first flight.
Safe flying,
Wayne
