Which gas engine to 72" giles?
Hi all
I am thinking of buying my first gas engine. I want to have plenty of power reserve for 3D flying and hovering.
Plane specs:
Wingspan: 72.05 inches
Wing Area: 961.00 sq. inches
Length: 62.99 inches
Weight: 10.58 Lbs.
Suggested engine is 1.10-1.60 2-stroker. Is the MVVS 26 with tuned pipe strong enough to give unlimited vertical or should I go for 35cc or even bigger one? Any suggestions are welcome, because I am totally new with gas engines. MVVS is nicely priced anyway.
MVVS engines [link=http://www.mvvs.nl/MVVS/main_bestanden/petrol.htm]I am probly getting from here.[/link]

Your setup will work-extremely well.Iam flying almost identical setup --900squares - 10.2 lbs EVO 26 on their pipe (same as you describe.)
best prop - 17x8-OR 18x6 -try various blade types but prop for about 8500-9000 on the ground running a bit rich .performance wil be strong vertical instantly on take off at a fast speed. instant hover recovery -vertically and will accelerate straight up
Use 32-1 Mobil fuel
Do not peak engine on ground! once it gets up to temperature in flying -it will be correct mixture .
Iam at 4350 ft elevation (over 1000 m) so your results will be even better .
If you go to over 11 lbs (5 kilo)-performance will not be as good as noted .
Also do not use in cowl muffler -the setup will be poor in performance.

So the total weight of your plane with motor and electronics is 10.2 lbs?
I have to ask my friend to weight his giles to calculate actual totals.
Which brand of props you are using?
Many thanks for your informative post
