Lanier Extra 330 ARF
I just recently purchased TWO airframes of the Lanier Extra 330 ARF from a good friend of mine who purchased them from towerhobbies right before they were discontinued earlier last year. These airframes have NEVER been in the air, which brings me to my question(s). Is anybody out there using or used this airplane for IMAC? I am looking to start competing in IMAC very soon in the near future and was wondering what engine works good with this airplane? I am leaning towards a DA-50. This is my first step into the "gasser" realm, and want it to be an enjoyable one. Any help or information would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Also, if its not to much trouble, any info on which servos would work best in this type of set-up would help!! Basically I am looking for ANY helpful information!!! Thanks

I picked a couple up during the close out also, and I have one with a 3W 75 in it. It is really a 75~80cc plane, mine with the 75cc in it has sufficient power for my flying, learning 3D, so I think it would be good for IMAC. I'm going with a MT57 with a tuned pipe in the new 330 and a LS Pro 100cc twin for the Edge, the DA50 might be on the small side for them if your's is the 97"er also. With the MT57 I was planing on moving all the servos out of the tail to help the balance.
The one I'm flying came with Hitec HS-5645MG servos, but I would say use the best you can afford.

My 87" Yak had a DA50 in it, if the Extra is built like the Yak it will be a little on the heavy side compared to the new 87" planes by other manufactures, but still a good flyer.

I had this plane a few years ago with a DA-50. It's a solid flyer without major problems.
True, it ends up a bit on the heavy side (over 17lbs.), but will fly IMAC without a problem with a good 50cc engine.
You can definitely use lesser servos on the wings (as you need two per side), so a couple of 5645s or 5945s will do per side. Same for elevators. Rudder will need a 5955.

They are lead sleds and dont fly that great. That why TH gave them away. 50cc motor is not enough for unlimited vertical. Maybe good enough for Basic, but that it. Sell them.

For what you want, 50cc and 5645's are fine, and if you don't want digi's 645's will do the job just as well.
Use a 4" spinner and a good 23x8 prop and you'll have enough power to pull off most IMAC.
Don't forget penty of electrons to the ignition and rx. 1,400 mAh and higher.(the higher the better) 4 cell to ign. 5 cell to rx.

Hey,
I had one a while back. The Lanier 330 is really nice, flies pretty well, and is fun.
I flew it with a DA-50, and had metal control arms.
Though it crashed on its 5th flight, with major damage.
The cause was either radio interference, or the screws on the metal control arms vibrated out and caused the ailerons to go crazy.
Just make sure if you use them, to use lock tight, and check after each flight!

I DONT GET IT I FLY MY 94"@ 18.5 LBS WITH DL 50 WHAT A MACHINE .HAD A 76CC TWIN AND CAME IN @ 20LBS .dont know how evryone .is making thies things so heavy.even have the 94 yak da100 @21.5 lbs ??????????i am now going to put the 76cc twin in the 94 yak that will bring it in @ 20lbs / i have done some lightining to both planes /use carbonite gears to save weight@1000mha a123 for batt/9100 reciever./replace all those nuts&bolts for fiber glass controll horns/may sound like a lot of work but man fly 1650 squares @ 18lbs now were talking.you can pretty near parrallel park LOL

i am flying the 94"ak with a 70cc and if really flys well with some pull out of a hover. An 80cc or 75cc would be better. Its less than 20lbs. I am working on the 94" 330 now and it is even lighter than the yak. It should be really fun wiith a 70-80cc motor.

There is a guy at our field with one of these with a DA50. He flies pretty much IMAC type flying with it and it does very well. You may also want to consider the DL50. just as good but, less cost. I had a DA50 in a 18lb edge and it would pull out of a hover with no problems.
