XXII World Aerobatics Championships From the contest
Hello all,
I decided to start this thread live from XXII WAC. I will be giving updates periodically.
Well, they are half way through programme Q (the qualification flights). Mamistov (RUS) is in first and Robert Armstrong is presently third. These flights do not count in the competition scores but are required for qualification to move on. A minimum overall percentage of 60% is required to contintue to the next flights.
I sat all evening with Quique - he is here for an invited IMAC frestyle competition that will take place on Saturday and Sunday. I wil keep you up to date on the stats for both events.
'till I write again -

XXII World Aerobatics Championships From the contest
Presently posted scores are FULL Scale. WAC competition first freestyle is still in progress.
As for the IMAC event - I have been bouncing back and forth, but it is required to take a tram since we need to cross an active runway to get over to the IMAC box. They finished up their day and the top ten will fly tomorrow. I spoke with Quique and Sarlan but missed their flights. Everyone I spoke to was "impressed" but I did not see to many modelers among the bunch I spoke to. Of course, all the competitors are going to say the flew great. I am trying to get todays results of the IMAC, but these Lakeland folks leave quick.
I'll keep you posted with any results I can get. The events are still not organized and information comes at the price of walking the entire Sun -n- Fun campus.
Post more either later today or tomorrow morning.

Question, is Svetlana as hot looking in person as she is in photos?
Definately off topic but I had to ask

Just out of curiosity does anyone know how the planes get here from other countries? Most of the top aerobats only have a 600 mile fuel supply. Do they crate them on a ship or a cargo plane?

XXII World Aerobatics Championships From the contest
Back again -
As for Svetlana, yes she is a cutie. Serge, the US Team Captain and I were talking yesterday and he relayed the store about the previous competition in which Svetlana wore a VERY short pair of shorts. Robert Armstrong said "three threads less and there would not have been anything to them at all. Well, she won the competition. POLITICS counts.
Anyway, Suk's aren't the only thing being flown. Actually, it's pretty mixed.
I will post the scores for the begining of yesterdays FULL Scale freestyle for WAC:

Oh, for OnTheEdge -
Some of the teams ferry their airplanes over. In many cases, the pilots will rent planes from the country of contest. Or, other team pilots will let a contestant fly their airplane. This is very much the case here except for th French who have all brought their Cap 232's.
When looking at the pilot flight rosters for the day, you will see a lot of N numbers. These ar US licensed aircraft.

IMAC competition results of top three - still trying to get all the scores and will post 1-10 order when I get it. But for now;
1st Somenzini
2nd Mark Leesburg
3rd Baron Johnson
Because of delays in the WAC, some of the pilots go to move over to the WAC aerobatic box and put on a demonstration. Quique flew a beautiful precision and 3D demonstartion and WOWed some of the IAC WAC pilots. He also "smoked" the crowd.
In Quique's award speech, he said this was the happiest day of his life because he got to fly for the guys he always tries to emulate.
More later,
1st Somenzini
2nd Mark Leesburg
3rd Baron Johnson

WAC and RC
Kule,
Thanks for the post on whats going on.. Although I have been out there every day I have not had time to check the scores.
I did go to the 2:30 awards and I was very impressed with Quique's speech and attitude. He did practice at my home field and carried himself real well. His wife Sandra was nice addition to out field also.. PropBusters of Lakeland.
I have been working out of the maintenence facility and have been very busy in the beginning but now I think we may be caught up.
Thanks again,
Jim in Lakeland

Garret was here.. as was Andy Kane. Fabio didn't make it unfortunately.
Garrett was flying very well, but unfortunately broke a deadline in his finals flight causing a disqualification.
Interesting sidenote to the WAC. There is not a single Extra competing in the event. The airplanes in competition are the Edge 540, Su-26, Su-29, Su-31, Cap231 (not an EX), Cap232, G-200, and G-202.
Robert Armstrong flying the Cap231 is currently the top US pilot, but I suspect Kirby Chambliss will be filing a protest after his free program due to the winds being out of limits. If upheld, he'll get to refly the flight.
Also.. Svetlana IS as beautiful in person as in pictures.. and she just happens to be leading OVERALL. She had the high score of the free program with all but 2 pilots left to fly. And it was not a small margin either. Many have thought she would be the 1st woman to win the overall, and she's certainly putting on a clinic this week.
2 unknowns still to come assuming the weather cooperates.
