IMAC Trimming Out Your Plane
I am looking for advice on trimming out my plane. Does anyone have any websites or info areas that can help me with tunning up my plane? I think my problems are do to not having my plane properly trimmed out. I just don't know where to start all my CG and trims are set to factory specs as of now.
Thanks for any input.

Here's one that should be easy to use at the field. I printed mine out and put in some plastic sleeves and that to field. Try this link[link=http:////nsrca.us/all/flying/177-trimchart.html]NSRCA[/link]

The biggest thing with trimming is be BRUTALLY honest. Close, isn't good enough. When you start to compromise, it will throw the rest of it off. The most important thing is CG. I check this by doing a 45 degree upline, then roll inverted. The nose should start to drop slightly and pull back around. This shouldnt be a very steep drop, and it shouldnt continue straight. Once you get this correct you can move on to the rest.
The NSRCA one is hard to beat.

Ok how do you guys stick with trimming out a plane??? I will start and then get sidetracked and just want to fly. I guess what I'm trying to say is I lack focus when going through the trim process. I haven't been able to get pass the multiple pull-ups to check lateral balance.

You don't/can't do it in one day. It's fine to go through one of the trim procedures and then just fly. Just keep track of what and where you are in the trim procedure, but more important follow the trim sequence and don't skip parts of it. You'll improve the plane and enjoy it as well.

Sounds like a winner...I'll see if I can soldier on and do that then...funny thing is I seem to loose track of what I'm doing or get home and don't feel like ripping the plane apart to adjust/add something...

RE: IMAC Trimming Out Your Plane
An out of trim IMAC plane annoys me greatly. I have left the field quite a few times after a half flight, because the down, or right thrust was wrong.
You just see something you didn't like or expect, diagnose it, then correct it. Once it has been diagnosed, i really can't fly the plane through the sequence without thinking about it. Having said that, I do have non IMAC planes that are horribly trimmed, because they are there for 3D and not IMAC

Ok then how do you trim a plane for freestyle??? I'm not an IMAC pilot but I'd like a plane to fly as true as possible, so is there a sort of middle of the road???
I've read that trimming a plane can help with almost any maneuver if you are not fighting it all over the place...

If you are talking about true freestyle and not 3D (they are very different things) then I would trim it just like your precision plane.....

properly trimmed, is properly trimmed. You will probably just have a slight CG change, and throw change. But the thrust angles will be pretty close on the two setups. Freestyle is becoming more and more like Sequence than 3D anyway.

Well, it just seems that everyone can do Rolling Harriers and Hover now. What sets pilots apart, is their ability to put it together in a routine with pattern elements. Like a perfect opposing point roll circle to the beat of the music, or a 1 roll circle on a 45deg slant. Those are much harder than any 3D maneuver.

When you find something wrong, take out a piece of paper write it down. Then stick it in the plane when you are leaving the field. Sometimes I leave with a list that's pretty long and I don't want to deal with it when I get home. With a bright white piece of paper sitting in my plane, every time I look at it, throughout the week, I am reminded about what I need to fix before heading out. I want to fly, so the stuff gets done.
BTW: A notebook would be ideal, but i have just recently moved up from writing on old receipts, to actual paper. I would like to saver that promotion for a while.[sm=rolleyes.gif]
I do carry a notebook for trimming foamy designs.
