Throws for WM 80" Extra???

Hi,
Does anyone know the recommended control throws and CG for the 80" extra? I just got one used and I'm really excited!

Thanks,

Joe

Throws for WM 80" Extra???

The CG is 6.5" where the wing meets the fuse. The control throws as per instuctions E/40mm R/66mm A/20mm.
The CG is pretty conservative I have been experamiting with mine and I am about 5.75 " As for the throws I have 1.5 on the E, 3.5 on R and 1.25 on A. This is low rate. On high it's everything I can get out of it.
If this plane has proper power you will love it. I fly mine with a 3.2 FPE gasser at 16lbs. I know a guy who put the OS 160 they recommend and all though I have not seen it fly, he says it is under powered. A Moki 180 or 210 would be good glow power.
This plane will crawl in for a landing and is very smooth at any speed (HEY IT'S A EXTRA AIN'T IT) It does very good 3D stuff too.
I hope this helps. If you need anything else, ask. Enjoy your new plane I know I have.

Thanks Kelly,
I got them the other day and flew yesterday. That thing really cooks with the G45. I was like, no way! Here is a picture,

I got mid aired last friday. Lucky my instructor and friend had the sticks. Landed ok. Horizonal stab 30% loss and left elevator 100% toast. Crazy new guy smacked into it. No apology either. ***.
That 3.2 is gonna rock. I'll be back in the air this weekend! I talked to airborne today and they were really cool. I also suggested they make and all white one that could be trimmed or painted by the purchaser.

well guys I'm sad to say my WM 300 is DEAD! :(

The wing bolts vibrated out and the wing twisted, slow spin to the ground.
There was enough damage that I probably want fix it. I don't like rebuilt planes.
I guess I can get something bigger now! :)

Kelly,
sorry to hear about the demise of your Extra. It was the inspiration for me getting mine. I will be looking into those wing bolts to see if I can do anything to make sure mine doesn't do the same thing. Hopefully I will be in Fayetteville with mine. Have you decided what you are going to get next?
Jim

Throws for WM 80" Extra???

Jim if you use two nuts on each bolt and jam them together you shouldn't have any problems. I put a mount just behind the wing tube with a bolt and blind nut in the wing. The way they had it it is very hard to get the nuts on the bolt. It was partly my fault, but hey live and learn you know. It worked very well and was easy to mount but i guess it couldn't handle the vibration. I am going to try a soft mount next time. I guess I should have put the bolt in the wing and put a lock nut on it.
It was a slow motion crash but 16lbs hitting the ground at any speed is bad for balsa.
As for whats next I havn't decided just yet. I think I want to get a GP Pitts. for the 3.2 or I might go ahead and get something for my 3W 75.
So many decisions ,so little time.

Thanks Krayzc, that is what I was going to do to start with but I wanted to try the other way first. It just turned out to be the last. The WM has a built up wing and would have required a little more work. You have to cut a hole in the end of the wing to get every thing mounted and epoxyed in.

All though I would never bust a plane on purpose I don't see it as the death of a plane I see it as the birth of a new one. But that one did hurt a little more than previous planes. The bigger they are the more OUCH !

I will be back in the air soon!

That is a really nice way to look at the end of a plane. That is exactly the stuff I am here on RCU to learn. Good luck on your new project. It will kick ass!

I got my extra back in the air yesterday and really wrung it out. New horizonal and both elevator halves. I just got my knuckle head radar on high for any sight jackasses and fools that fly reckless.

Joe :)

I have the WM extra as well, yet to fly. I like the nylon bolt and wing nut and wasnt that satisfied with the WM design.
Just curious - what is the cup hook for that is forward of the bolt and servo wire ??

thanks
mike
