Hi,
I have 2 jet cat spm5 turbines in a boat. I decided to start the turbines today
and on start up one of the turbines does the proveriable lock up once the motor starts to build
heat. Once the turbine stopped everthing turns freely.
The turbine would be lucky to have 10 minutes total run time with approx 3 start ups.
I was reading on the net that the EGV ring would be the culprit and the turbine
Would need to be sent back to Germany to be re machined. Has any one else had
this happened to them. I'm a little worried as I have had the turbine for just over a
year and have finally finished the boat and know this had to happen.

had it happen and it was the EGV dragging when it expanded (got hot). turnaround was fairly quick but it was JetCat USA.

The same thing happened to me on a P-70 with 42 minutes on the engine. The Turbine wheel rubs on the NGV when it heats up during start up.

I've had it on P-80's and a P-120SE.  On the 80's it was bad EGV's.  On the 120 they changed the compressor wheel.

Thanks for the replies, I have sent the turbine back to jet cat in Germany. It's a pain as the turbine would be lucky to have 10 minutes run time in total. Oh well now it's a waiting game. I suppose this can happen with high end models.
