Default A123 Battery for JetCat ECU

Matt,

I just bought an A123 9.9V 2300 mAH pack for my P-120 (non-kerostart) ECU. How many flights do you think I'll average and which GSU menu setting do I need to change?

Hi Ken,

Sorry for the delay, busy at work.

You should get 4-5, but I don't know much about a123 cells. I would not push it until I charaterized the pack (ie run a couple of flights and then discharge to see what you have left, at a pretty high rate). Checking what goes INTO the pack can be very misleading, but a good discharge cycle gives a lot of information.

The setting is for 8 cell nicad but unless you are using the low battery warning features of the ECU you can ignore it.

Regards,

Matt

Matt,
Is the only difference in the cell count settings the low voltage alarms?

Yes, that is it.

I heard some new mods might be coming for direct lithium nanophosphate support, but nothing yet.

Matt,

I received my A123 ECU battery today. I went to the Limits menu in the GSU for my P-80 version 5.10E ECU and can only select three options. They are NiCad 6 Cell 7.2V, LiPo 2 Cell 7.4V or Lipo 3 Cell 11.1V. Where's the 8 Cell setting?

For now, I'll leave it at NiCad 6 Cell with the low battery warning disabled and monitor the voltage on the run screen.

See picture below of the new A123 battery side-by-side with the 6 Cell NiCad from JetCat.

Hi Ken,

Have not forgot about you, I have been playing phone tag with Wilcox for a week now. THere used to be settings for up to 10 NiCads IIRC, so something has change. I will post when I find out.

Matt,

I got an e-mail from Bob. He gave me the key to setting up the V6.0A ECU for 8 Cell NiCad. For the V5.1E, he said to call him. Must be much more complicated. When I'm ready, I'll do that. Thanks for your help!

Matt,

Just out of curiosity today, I tried to set the cell count from 6 to 8 in V5.1E using the same method Bob described to me for V6.0A and I was able to do it. If I'm able to do it, then I'd like to know if there's any other menu that needs attention.

Thanks,

Ken
