Default Shorten data cable?

Is it safe to shorten the data (phone line). I only have a few inches between the ECU and the circuit board. I have the crimper to crimp on a new 6 poll connector.

Thanks

Hello,
Yes it is fine to shorten the cable, I do it all of the time. Just make sure you have a good crimper, and that you get the polarity right on the new connector you crimp on.

Here's what you need...the crimper is available at Radio Shack and the plugs and cable stock came from Home Depot.

Hi, Harley,
Jet is almost done. I bought a new 6ft cable that i am going to shorten since the clips on the old cable are broken. I did notice the the NEW phone cable that the plugs are flipped from one end to the other (white wire is on left side on one end, and it is on the right side on the other with clip facing up) and on the JET cat cables they are on the same side from end to end. I wonder why that is?

Hi Graham,

That is why I mentioned checking the polarity and check it again before you crimp the cable.

Standard phone cords will smoke the ECU, you have to have the polarity correct!

But it will be fine if I cut one end off and crimp on a new one that is flipped?

Hi Graham,

If the polarity is exactly the same as stock, or course it will be fine.

Hi Matt,
Can Bob Wilcox make these cables to a specific length? I have a new project and would like to have shorter cables and don't want to mess around trying to make them. Crimping tiny pins/wires with a cheap Radio Shack crimper is not a reliable solution in my mind.

Al,
Give me the lengths you want, and I will be pleased to make them up for you.

I got mine done and everything works fine. I used an Ideal crimper that I bought from Home Depot for about $25.

Hi Harley,
Thanks for the offer. I don't have the final lengths yet but I know that they will be way shorter than the standard cables supplied with the turbine. I will let you know when I have the final lengths- probably a month os so.
Thanks Again,
Al Watson

Good to hear from you again AL.
Just let me know what the lengths are end to end (total overall length) and I'll pop them out for ya.

Just a note, if you guys do this make sure you get a quality crimper, you don't want to invent a new problem!
