P-80 will not turn
I have a problem with my new P-80SE. I have a total of 45 minutes and 4 flights. On my last flight yesterday it seemed to run well as before, except for a quick belch of flame which never happened before.
After the flight was over the starter motor was making a funny noise in the cool down cycle.
Before my next flight I decided to test the starter motor. I could not turn over the motor at that time. It was stuck.
Tried to free the turbine blades but they would not budge.
Any thoughts on what might cause this on a new motor. This is my first Turbine and I would really like to get back in the air quickly.
Thanks,
Stan

RE: P-80 will not turn
I have seen crud go through the turbine and end up making a buildup on the EGV ring, causing the turbine wheel to rub the crud spot and you get a funny sound, usually on start up.
See if you can see any spot where the turbine wheel is rubbing on the ring.

Hi Mr matt,
There appears to be spotty build up at various parts on the ring. I can't tell what it is. Is it a difficult job to get to that ring and clean it? it appears that a few of the turbine blades might be touching the ring.
Yes I have mixed the recomended turbine oil with my 5 gallon kerosene.
Thanks,
Stan

I have gotten those "cruds" off but it takes a surgeons touch. You use a dremel and hand tools. One wrong move and you can make a real mess of things.
Like I said there is a chance something went through the turbine. Call Bob Wilcox to discuss your options.
