We're an Iconic driven society...  Even the Dx8's menu has pictures, I'm surprised it doesn't have a lightning bolt for fast, and a hour glass for slow.

Text + graphics in the radios!

The only place we didn't is where it couldn't fit both, like in some languages where we had to use >> for NEXT and

Yes, go into the iPhone settings screen, select the STi, and change it there.

You can also use the search function - I think searching on STi and either Celsius or Fahrenheit will help. Google will return several places in RCU and RCG where others and I have already answered this question.

I have two planes (Spektrum) equiped with: engine temp, rpm, altitude, and airspeed sensors.

I am seeing large variations in the reported altitude, some of which are correlated wih engine rpm. These variations occur both with closed and open cockpits.

It seems that there are substantial delays in read-outs.

The airspeed indicator also seems to show substantial variations.

On the positive side, being able to monitor engine temperature and rpm was important in configuring the cowls of these aircraft.

Does my experience correlate with that of other users?

thanks...

I saw this on my EAA biplane.  There is a large windscreen and there was a hole that allowed a low pressure condition to exist inside the fuselage.  The best location for the Altitude sensor is in the wing at least 6" outboard of the fuselage.  I also get pressure variations as a result of prop wash through the motor mount.  As for Air speed, I find the readings vary depending on the maneouver.  Straight and level I get readings that make sense, but steep turns, Immelmans, and even loops cause the read out to vary..

I have tried putting the Altitude sensor in a small medicine bottle that has a pinhole vent to the outside, but need further testing to see if this helps smooth the readings.

Using a small bottle with a pin-hole is an interesting idea! I will try it as well.

thanks

The heli guys use 35mm film canisters with a small hole in them. The problem they have is the huge pressure changes every time a rotor passes overhead.

You may be seeing a different problem in your plane, but the pinhole is an excellent way to remove the noisy data. Properly locating a static port is an art.

Just downloaded the new DX8 update. Version 2.05. Update loaded ok but did not find anything about the GPS (Added support for GPS and High Current telemetry sensors). Does this mean more to come later?

You see them as sensor options on the Telemetry menu. They are coming out "any day now" according to our website.

Does that mean another update is coming? Nothing with version 2.05 that indicates anything about GPS at this time. I checked under the menu where I activated all other telemetry items and there is not a blank to setup for gps.

Go to the Telemetry menu.

Move down to one of the sensor slots.

Roll it all the way to the right. It says GPS (right after GForce).

Now go to the Community page and select Updates for your radio. Select the release notes (the link is named "download the Software Update Read Me file"). Read the very first item in the Software Features list.

Added support for GPS and High Current telemetry sensors.

Are you expecting something different?

Thanks Andy: I guess that I had a brain lapse. I replaced the item listed as Pbox with GPS. It will be ok now. Thanks for the reminder. There are only 9 slots for different telemetry items. 1- RPM, 2-Volts, 3-Temp, 4-GPS, 5-Gforce, 6-Alt, 7- Speed, 8-RxV, 9-Flight log. Under that is Settings.

Do you really have all those sensors enabled at once in the same plane!?!?!? That's impressive!

Yes I do. Waiting for the GPS unit when it is available. All in a Funtana 125 with the SYSSA 30cc gas engine. Love the way it flys. Use the iPhone Sti1000 with the phone. My son gives me the readings while I fly.

The Sti device and software are more than just amusing, but I am frusrated by  the lack of a manual. Have I missed one somewhere?

THanks.

Hi, OK I give up:
I have accidently started a STi  flight log, but I don't know to do it again!

I bet all of you know the secret...can you give a guy a hand up?

thanks

I will give it a shot. Go to the setup of the sti, set autologging as a default, I choose RPM as the sensor name, set Start Log at Value 3000 rpm's. When the engine RPM reaches or exceeds 3000 rpm logging will start. Press done in the upper left corner and you are set. Other values could be chosen such as airspeed, etc. Good luck.

Thanks JohnB96041

My stupid problems continue. I now can create files. Tonight I was making one per second! It took qiote a while to delete them one at a time, so I wonder, is there a way to select a bunch of files and delete them all?

Even after changing the trigger parameters, (I was using altitude at my workbench), it continued to generate files, one per second!

I notice an orange circle (with a white outer edge, and a smaller inner white circle) near the upper left corner.  What does this mean?

When you initiate playback, what is supposed to happen?

Thanks in advance.

Do not have the orange circle near the upper left corner. Are you using the latest version of the Sti iphone apps? When you start the playback of a logged file, it will show all of the info that has been collected in a chart.

I should have been clearer, the orange circle appears only for short times, I suspect it does when files are being created.

When you do playback, does it display all the stored data, i.e. altitude, speed, rpm, temperature, and receiver voltage, as it happened during the flight?

I downloaded the software about a month ago, where is version id displayed?

thanks!
