I have never hooked my 10X up to any other TX's yet, but did yesterday, and only way it would work right is to download my model in the other 10X also. Is this right or did we do something wrong? I thought that if mine was the master that the other wouldnt matter what it was on.

Both systems do need to be set up for the model being flown as when the slave is operating, the commands it gives are used, and if the commands are reversed etc it will cause reverse movement on the plane. Also the slave does need to be set to PPM.

PPM? I basically downloaded my model into his then we just went for it.

Now, what if it was the other way around, my 10X is full of models, so basically I will have to erase one of mine to use one of his planes with mine being the slave?

That is correct. Or find one of them that is 'close enough' to work properly. The datasafe is great for situations like this so that you can store the model before erasing it, and then reload the settings back into the system after. If the modulation was incorrect it would not have worked at all when you press the button.
