Default What is this on my DX8

I popped the back cover off of my new DX8 just to take a look. (Yes I like to see what is in the box) I noticed the following in two spots on the pc board. Any ideas?

I would also like to know. It looks to me like your board was repaired at some point. Apparent by the cable coming around from the front. Looks like they sanded the protective coating off the board to make the repairs.

Take what I just said with a grain of salt. Been around RC for several years, but I do not claim to be an electronics expert.

I would hazard a guess and say its flux residue from the solder. Should be easy to remove if it is, get a cotton bud and dip it into IPA (IsoPropyl Alcohol) or something of that ilk and gently rub over it.

If it comes off easy then no problem.

It is no-clarn flux used for secondary soldering. Lokks like the switch was soldered in after the pc board was installed. You do not need to clean it and if you try it may look worse than is dose now.

for my own edification then, why would a cable come from the front of the board and be soldered to the back of it? The OP stated TWO spots. You account for one, and your explanation is reasonable; what about the other spot?

One is the cable and the other is in the center of the board.

There is usally a reason for a wire like that and it is not a repair. Could be a jumper that could not be wave soldered during production, could be something else...would really need to see what the other end of the wire goes to before guessing wildly, though.

As the previous poster said, those are flux spots from assembling the green wire and the switch assembly to the board after the board is produced. I would not worry about it at all.

It's sloppy work whatever the reason.

If it was mine, I would clean it then spray with pcb varnish (like I do with every pcb repair I carry out)

I've seen this type of thing many times having worked in the electronics industry for close on 40 years & the corrosion on your board is due to the board having been exposed to moisture maybe even spillage . But it looks like it will clean uop ok with some alcohol. Dave

My new DX8 basically looked just like yours inside Not a very good job of cleaning the pcb after manufacture!

I would like to know what is the purpose of that green wire that was soldered on there also??? Looks like a mod that was done after the design
to fix a problem? Since I waited a couple of years after the release I figured things like that would not be there by now!

I cleaned my pcb with Microcare's Supr Clean solvent using a "QTip".

Anyone have any pics of the other side of the pcb's in this transmitter?

Michael
