Default Aerial length?

Danny,
I have a new XS3 system for my boat.
Question is when putting the aerial to a screw on stainless steel one, do I have to shorten the wire by the length of the stainless aerial?
I have had all sorts of reports, but I would like some input from a tek.

Paul.

Generally you can shorten the antenna length by the length of the new antenna, or if it is a base loaded antenna the amount described by the manufacturer. It is best though to have the receiver tuned to the antenna for best performance.

Any disadvantages in leaving the wire as is & attatching to stainless antenna?

That is difficult to say. It shouldn't, but could. Either way, it is best to tune it with that antenna.
