Default Using another 8103 tx for DataBackup

I can't use my JR Datasafe 2 for data backup out of my digital JR 8103, because it's non compatible with my Dell Windows ME. So...

I'm considering buying a used 8103 to transfer data from one tx to the other.

The question is: Because some folks sell their 8103 without a module, I wonder if I would be able to do buy a used tx without a module, and do the data transfer successfully? Also; would it make a difference in successfully transfering the data if the used tx I buy from someone has manual trim and my tx has digital trim?

Anybody have experience with this ?

It might be worth it to upgrade to XP. I'm using my Datasafe with XP with no problem.

To your questions:

The module has nothing to do with data transfer and it will work fine without a module in either or both radios.

Data transfer will not work between a radio with digital trims and one without. The layout of data is different in the memories of each radio as the DT model has memory space to store the trim information.

Default Digital to Non-digital

Oh, that's great. Just when I thought I might get away with buying an older and cheaper used non-digital 8103 for about $175, you have to go break the news that I'll need to buy the current production digital variety 8103 for a lot more. I'll bet you're the type who takes joy in telling the neigbors that you just heard on the radio that their jobs are being cut!

Thanks for the info. My radio is about 11 months old. So I can probably wait another 2 to 3 years before the litheum battery goes bad. By that time the 8103 model will probably be old and discontinued and I can get a used one cheap. (But even then, the 8103 will remain high tech and up to date with me, cause I'll still probably have that thick instruction book glued to my bi-focals while I'm flying. )

What Scott said is true, but the datasafe should work with any version of Windows. I would recommend giving one of our techs a call at 877-504-0233 and see if we can help straighten the problem out.

Mr. Snyder,
I have had numerous phone calls with Derek @ the service department. He did everything he could before declaring that my computer was incompatable. I say it's the other way around: the Datasafe is incompatable I have a Dell pentium 4 with Windows 2000ME. If you read my post from August 24, "Datasafe2 Interface Problems" in the adjoining Radio and Receivers Forum, you will find another gentleman reporting the same problem. I believe he also has the Windows ME.
I believe I have a legitimate beef to say that if JR was aware of this compatability problem, then it SHOULD HAVE BEEN POSTED ON THE BOX. (AKA "system requirements")

Derek and the service depart are SUPER, and have tried to make up in other ways. But he can't help it if this product just doesn't work, and JR executives won't address the problem and fix it.

Let me know if there's anything that you know about this product, that Derek and I are not aware of. No sence in me calling every 3rd person at JR, only to hit the same brick wall. THANKS!

I have ME on my computer at home, I'll try it out tonight. If I can find anything I'll let you know. It is also a Dell. I'll report what I find tomorrow hopefully.

Default Whewww...

...now that's what I call fast service! I couldn't even barely get out of the screen with that post above before you were replying to it already.

PS Want to trade a used and scratched up digital 8103 missing the module, for my two Datasafes? I'll even throw in a 3rd extra interface module. You can spend eternal bliss in Datasafe2 Heaven like I have.

I tried it on my machine at home last night, and didn't have any troubles installing or running datasafe 2. I can try a few more things, but I didn't have any difficulties. If I can find a trick to it or any other info I will let you know.

Mr. Syder,
Another individual in this adjoining RCRadios and Receivers forum by the name of "Yamawho" just yesterday posted that he too is having problems. (refer to the last post #10 on the thread in that forum titled"Datasafe2 interface problems" started August 24).

-Just to let you know that it's not just something wrong with my computer. There's a good bunch of us out there experiencing these problems that make the purchase useless. Like I said, Topper needs to investigate and address this problem, so you guys aren't stuck holding the bag looking helpless. I will resell my Datasafe2 items to recoup some of the expense, (I also wound up paying a computer specialist to try to help me when Horizion Service had me beleving the problem was with my computer)It's been a time consuming, and frustrating pain in buttocks. Pinpointing the problem, and stating it on the Datasafe2 box in the form of "Requirements" would help alleviate problems like this in the future from occuring with other loyal JR customers.

Thanks for your efforts anyway. I consider this a rare exception to the fact that you otherwise have a great service department. -Randall
