Default Let's Talk About Servos

Danny,
I am considering purchasing JR servos for my next project. The aircraft will be a 28% Wildhare Extra Special/DA 50 combo. In the past I have used Hitec 5625/5645 digitals and am still considering the 5945 coreless for this ship, I will use a JR 8611 on the rudder no matter what. My LHS dealer is recommending 8611'S all the way around. This seems like considerable overkill on this sized aircraft and even the 8411'S (my choice), seem overkill as well. LHS dealer told me that the prices were the same, so you might as well get the 8611'S. Could I please get your input on what you think would be the best combination? I am also concerned about current draw between the 8411 and 8611 and what type of batteries you would recommend here for precision aerobatic/Imac type flying. Thank you in advance.

Both the 8411 and 8611 would be overkill, but it just depends on what you want to spend etc. For the money given the choice between the 8411 and 8611 I would go with the 8611. Current draw wise, it is possible for the 8611 to draw more power at stall, however in that size plane that should never be an issue with either servo, so current draw would be similar, possibly the 8611 could be slightly less since it would have more torque for a given amount of power and draw less due to that since you aren't working the servo as hard due to its capability being higher. However I have used the 9411 in many 50 cc size aircraft on elevator and ailerons (Double Vision, H9 Extra 260, Planes Plus 27% Extra, etc) and they have worked very well for me. For battery for that size aircraft I would recommend around 2000 mah or higher for a respectable amount of flights per charge. The larger mah pack you use, the more flights you can get per charge, the upper limit being bound by weight of the battery. I've used many Nimh and Lithium ion batteries with great results.

Danny,
Thank you for the quick response. I'm guessing that the 9411 was a typo and you really were referring to the 8411. What are the real differences between the 8411 and 8611 either electrically or mechanically? A friend has just put a set of 8411'S on his new 3W 2 Metre Extra Fun, so I'll know how they perform shortly.

No, that was not a typo, I was talking about the 9411. The 8611 is slightly larger (2mm in every direction), it uses a different gear train, motor, etc. It is a completely different servo.

Thank you, I'll have to look that one up.
