Dennis,
I have a 10X and a buddy has a 10SX. One of the differences that we have notices is the 10X has a mix for dual elevator servos, the 10SX does not. I believe that it is mostly in the programming but I have been told that a 10SX cannot be reprogrammed by JR to a 10X.
My advice, is even though the radios are similar, there are enough differences to make it worth your while to hold out for the 10X. I believe that you can get a brand new transmitter only for around $650 with the module and case.

i was thinking about buying a new 8103 but this 10 sx came up thought it was a better deal. going to 33% plane and it has 2 servos per surface was wondering witch radio would be better.
thanks dennis

Dennis,
If you are not planning on flying helicopters, I'd say the 10SX is better than the 8103 - easier to program more options except that you can setup the 8103 for helicopters. SX or the X has to be dedicated to airplane or helicopter.
I had the 8103 as my first new radio after getting back in the sport. I had an opportunity to get the 10X and have never regretted.
You will most likely have to use a "Y" to connect the servos.

The differences between them are mainly programming differences, and additional features in the 10X. Also the 10X has a thinner and more ergonomic case than the other 10 series radios. But the 10SX is certainly a good system. The cost for a check out really depends on if there is anything that needs to be done, but I would guess the average charge for a check up and tuning is around $20 to $30, but this does vary each way.
