Is the JR NER549X a dual or single conversion? The crystals housed in Gray plastic, what does the gray indicate? if anything.

The 549X is a Single Conversion Receiver, indicated by the Grey Crystal Cover.
JR uses... Grey for Single, Red for Dual and Black for Transmit Crystals.
