Hi all.....

Does anyone know what the difference is between the original JR datasafe and datasafe 2?

The main difference is software, and a new smaller interface that uses a 9 pin serial port on the datasafe 2, rather than a 25 pin for the original datasafe, that required an adapter for most computers. The software has been updated for newer operating systems.
