The 642 is a good system, it did have PPM, ZPCM, and SPCM modulation types.

It has program mixing, and yes they can be assigned to switches. PPM, ZPCM, and SPCM are 3 different types of JR modulation, PPM is FM, ZPCM is JR's older type of PCM (it was actually the 2nd generation) and was 512 resolution, and SPCM is the current type of PCM from JR and is 1024 resolution. You match the type to the receiver being used.

I don't have a features list for the 642, you could download the 652 manual and look through it, it has just a couple additions over the 642 but programming is similar.
