Default ZPCM vs SPCM

I am thinking of buying a new receiver. But am having diffuculty determining which receiver I should choose. If SPCM gives double the servo resolution (1024 vs 512) over ZPCM would ZPCM be good enough for general sport flying. I use 507 and 517 servos and am not an accomplished pilot. I have been flying PPM only on R600 FM receivers I think. Would I be able to discern the difference?
And if it looks like I'm confused, I am

ZPCM works just fine in most applications, but in cases where accuracy is a must SPCM is much better. For sport flying with standard servos it is doubtful you would be able to tell the difference.

I fly both ZPCM and SPCM, both work fine.

One additional point with SPCM is you can program fail-safe for position/hold settings for each channel.
ZPCM only permits a position setting. This is important for me with heli flying as I want the throttle to go to idle whereas I want all other inputs to hold.

Yeah, the search function didn't reveal anything to me in this forum that covered the subject and I thought that's what forums were all about; redundant redundancy.
