DX-7 ar6100 problem
I have installed the Spektrum equipment in my Mini Funtana X. When I was setting it up my elevator all of a sudden went to hard down elevator. It went to full deflection. I had to unplug the battery and plug it back in to regain control. It was only the elevator channel that was effected. It happened twice that night, now I am afraid to fly it. Any thoughts?
I have over 20 flights on this plane with no problems, with my original radio.
The receiver is the AR6100.

I don't want to step on Danny's toes since this is a manufacturer support forum, but a similar problem is being discussed on this thread with no apparent solution yet...

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
Is the battery fully charged? Are you hitting the BEC cut off of the ESC? Have you tried powering the RX with a separate battery to see if there is a problem with the BEC of your speed control. If all else fails, feel free to send the receiver in for a check up.

Danny and others:
This particular AR6100 problem is showing up and is repeatable in a number of AR6100 RX units. Spektrum is actively working on a fix for ths issue. Please see this post over at R/C groups in particular:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=186
and the thread that the post is from:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636132
the first post is number 186 of the thread.
Please forgive the link to RC Groups, but it will likely help many here with the same issues and save endless typing.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
It just happened to me and destroyed 2 brand new planes. The first one I wrote off as an unexplained crash. The second, myself and another guy saw the fully deflected down elevator before impact. While I was getting the second plane out of a ditch, a guy told me about this problem. It's the weekend so I'll be on the phone with Horizon on Monday.

This issue was corrected long ago.
The Horizon service dept. was very accommodating and replaced my damaged ESC and motor, however, I took my 6100 out of service.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
I'm sorry you feel that way, but the 6100 receiver performs very well. There are other factors that may have caused the issue you had, such as battery or BEC problems.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
Danny,
It has nothing to do with the way I feel. I was using the same batteries and ESC for 6 months with a Berg 4L. As soon as I switched to the V1.2 AR6100, I put $300 worth of ARF's in the toilet (EF Extra 300E & Brio 10). I send it in and I'm told there is nothing wrong, it's something I'm doing.
It would be interesting to know:
How many 6000, 6100, 6200, 7000's have been sold/ produced so far?
How many 6100's have malfunctioned (pre and post V1.2) as well as the others?

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
Tens of thousands of them have been produced. Exact numbers are not available. Simply put however the number of problems is very low. BEC or battery problems in your case is not an impossiblity.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
My 6100 did this same thing on 3 occasions. The last time it ttotally destroyed a mini ultra stik. I sent it to Horizon and the tech said that he upgraded the firmware and the receiver should work fine. My point is they must have recognized a problem or they wouldnt upgrade the firmware. None the less, it makes you leary of using this model rx after reading so many of the same issues. Only other answer is we are all stupid, using poor batteries, and poor esc.

Everything is covered in the bulletin.

There have only been a few problems here and there, and they were corrected. The 6100 receiver performs very well. I use them often with great success.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
Understood for sure. But the minor here and there problem cost me a $199 mini ultra stik. So I am probably a little less receptive to the corporate politically correct answer.

I witnessed it happen again this weekend. Myself and another guy flying identical aircraft were doing a formation flight at a funfly. We set up for a mirror image inverted/ upright low pass. I was upright and the other guy was inverted. His motor stopped, and it did an inverted harrier into the ground and snapped in half. He had a brand new V1.2...

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
What aircraft were they in? What power system? What was the voltage of the battery? Any chance the pilot stalled the aircraft? Any chance of any other set up issue with the aircraft? There are a great number of possible scenarios.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
When i heard him say "I have no control" I gently pulled up and watched it go in and I could clearly see the elevator at amost 90deg deflection. The battery was fine. He was using a 4S pack, Torque motor, not sure what ECS/BEC. The guys from 3Dhobbyshop were there and run 6100's in several planes without issue.
The point is that there really is a common problem with these, you just don't know if and when it will happen to you. Save yourself some grief and step up to the 6200.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
I have lost over $3,000 in my four crashed planes because of the receiver re-boot problem. Horrizon needs to address this issue before someone gets injured by a out of control aircraft or heli.

RE: DX-7 ar6100 problem
The 6100 was on a Extreme Flight 300 Extra, $170 plane. Two other planes were using AR 7000 and one was on a 6200. I guess I missed the section on how expensive of a plane you can fly in the Spectrum manual
I was one of the first to see problems with the 6100 and worked with them to upgrade the software on the them. The recall, or upgrade of the 6100 earlier this year was a result of this. Then they come out with this voltage regulator (capacitor) to buffer the voltage to prevent the "brown outs". I tried those too and one was in my plane on the last crash. It's been very frustrating trying to figure out what's going on and getting them to fix the problem. I wanted to stick with my Spektrum stuff, believe me as I have lots of money invested in the techology, but I can't fly safely anymore with their radio system.
I could sell all my stuff to someone else as everyone loves the Spektrum radios now, but then if they use it and crash I will feel responsible and can't live with that.

JMOHN, Three things are certin in life, Death, Taxes and if you fly RC your going to crash. Get with it and fix your system problem or move on. You have a marginal part in your set up ( not Specktrum ) causing your problem. Example, Castle now sends a notice with their ESC's on the number of servos to use with different voltage battery packs.
