New 9X and 12X radios... linear or switching regulator?
People have been purchasing a replacement switching regulator for both the DX6 and DX7. The runtime for the radio is approximately doubled because of this modification. It is rather simple to do as well. So, could you ask the engineers what it uses? We want the switching regulator stock... are we going to have to do this modification ourselves again, or because these will be JR radios they'll put the extra $15 into a less wasteful component?

Good point there.
Anyone know how the 9X/9303 is regulated? I guess the new radios will be the same????

The 9X / 9XII / 9303 / MX22 all share a common pcb (with minor revision changes). The raw voltage is split into 2 paths, 1 to the CPU PCB which is then regulated by a Linear 5V Voltage regulator (78L05). The other raw volatge is fed to the module for the RF Amp, there is also a 78L06 Linear 6V regulator to supply power to the Crystal Oscillator in the module. If you are using a synth module, this 6V is not connected. The raw battery is regulated on board the synth module for the crystal reference oscillator.

I know... any deviation from how the radio is made is not recommended by any manufacturer. Even if you know it's a good idea you can't recommend it, nor discuss it. I just thought it'd be nice to double the run time of the radio, and go through less batteries. It's just such an incredibly easy modification. Could you at least place mention of this to the guys at JR who do the electrical engineering? Two years down the road you can offer it as an upgrade performed by the service technicians. People will love to have it. Who do I contact to recommend this if you can't?

The DX7 does not benefit very much from this mod when using DSM2. So unless a person is planning to use alot of AR6000 receivers with a DX7 or higher transmitter the benefits of the mod are very questionable. Take a look at posts 334 and 336, http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...35#post7285635
It also very easy to apply to much heat and float the traces off of the PCB when performing this mod. []
