Trying to make HH selectable
I have an 8103A and have a heli on it. Currently the radio only supports 2 modes of Gyro sensitivity (0 & 1). I have my NORM, ST1, and ST2 set to 1 = 90%. I have mode 0 = 25% for regular gyro usage.
My goal is to be able to have all 3 modes (NORM, ST1 and ST2) be on HH mode (1), but be able to in mid-flight select mode (0) for weathervaining while flying aerobatics (not 3D). Then if I wish to use any of the flight modes with HH, I could then just flip it back on.
Most Futaba radios will do this but I'm thinking that my 8103 is just not as sophisticated as far as having more than 2 gyro modes.
Has anyone out there successfully been able to engineer a way to get around the lack of gyro modes on the 8103 for their helis?
Help is much appreciated.

Couple the gyro modes to the ruder d/r switch, and don't use "auto" mode. This way, the rudder switch will select between the two modes regardless of which flight mode you are in, which sounds like what you want. I run my 8103 this way, and it is very effective, and very simple - I can't imagine how Futaba (or anyone else, for that matter) could make it any easier, unless the TX was telepathic and could read your mind . . .

On my 8103, when you go into the gyro setup screen, you can select the controlling input, as I recall, between "Inhibit", "Auto", and "Rudd D/R". I am at work and don't have the radio handy right now, but this should be close. . . . select the one which sounds like "Rudd D/R" and the gyro gain selection will then be controlled by the rudder d/r switch, and not the flight mode switch. (Just to be sure, I just checked the online 8103 manual at Horizon, and the above is exact - check page 85 of your manual if you need more information.)
