Does Spektrum have any plans to provide its DX6 customers an upgrade path to DSM2, like, say, factory retrofit of a circuit board? Given that several new DSM2 receivers like the 6100, 6200 and 6300 are only 6 channel anyway, wouldn't it make sense to open up the marketplace for these new receivers to the existing 6-channel Spektrum Tx customers?

There are no plans for any updates to existing DX6 systems.

I would venture a guess that the cost to retrofit the DX7 circuitry into a DX6 would cost just about the same as buying a new DX7.

Or maybe more....

Very true, upgrading an existing system would cost as much or more than a new system. I can't speak to any future products.
