I am installing a Spektrum system in my jet and will be using two remotes. I need longer extensions, but these are currently out of stock at Horizon. Can I lengthen a 12" extension to the required length? If so, any precautions/requirements, particularly wire size?

As a general rule I don't recommend modifying anything. If you are good with soldering and do a clean job and use care with the installation of the wire so that it does not put any stress or vibration on the solder joint it might be ok, but as a general rule I wouldn't recommend it. You will need to use equal sized wire as the stock wire.
