Default RE: 9303 manual on CD problem

I just ordered an X9303 today and called one of my club member friends who had just received his X9303 today. He previously owned the XP9303. His only negative comment about the X9303 was that the owners manual is on CD. He stated, and I agree, how inconvenient this is when trying to referrence the manual while setting up an airplane in your shop or adjusting some parameter while at the flying field. I'm sure we all would rather have a printed manual. A CD in addition to the printed manual would be nice I guess. Although, the manual can be downloaded from the JR website, so a CD would be of not much use.

Down near the very bottom of the list for downloading. A hassle but doable.

I just printed everything, some 140 pages except the sailplane manual. The CD will hang from a car mirror.

All of my tech manuals here at work are coming on CD now too. A real pain to deal with but much cheaper for the manufacturers to mass produce than paper versions. Worst part is when they scan/digitize drawings for the manual they usually distort/blur when you try to enlarge them.

Adobe acrobat reader is used to open the files, you can download it free from their web site. Printed manuals are available.

I was told only a couple days ago by a Horizon rep that printed manuals will not be available for the X9303. I don't mind paying for them if they are available. Which answer is correct?

I'd bet on Danny.

Danny, do you have a Horizon part number/stock number?

Hey pepatrick,

I just got mine today and headed over to FedEx/Kinkos. I had them print it double sided on three hole paper and bought a 1/2" binder to put it in so it lays flat when opened, is that okay rather than having it bound????

Seriously tho guys, it's just the way things are going now. By the time I monkey around with trying to get a printed manual from Horizon, or I could have printed it myself but didn't have the three hole paper here and I'd have to turn the pages manually, $12.00 for double sided, three hole paper at Kinkos seemed like a bargain.

JMHO, YMMV...

Thanks for the input to get a manual from Kinko’s for $12. That is a lot less expensive than those ink carts[&o].

I must disagree in regard to obtaining a manual on a CD being a good thing. I get many products that have a manual on CD but the products are used at home or work where a computer is nearby. However, the newer radios can be intimidating at times until one has worked through the process a few times. That is when having the manual out at the field is a good thing . There are also members of my clubs that do not have a computer. The old saying, penny wise, pound foolish may apply here.

On a second note, I hope Horizon posts all addendums to manuals and setup suggestions in one place on their web site. I have an older 8103 and a section was not in my manual regarding a heli function. Searching the forums turned up a pdf file someplace over in the UK (I think from MacMan). It was exactly what I needed. I searched Horizon site thinking it should be there and maybe other updates as well and I could find only the 8103 manual and a few other things.

Sorry for getting long winded.

Another thing to think about on this transmitter....Its real easy to program anyway...Once you get familiar with the screens...you probably will not need the manual anyway...

Manuals WILL be available. Our product support department can get you a copy of the manual. Many products now come with a CD, and most users do not use the manual at the field. But if you do, contact our product support department and they can assist. The CD was the only way to include a complete manual in the existing packaging.

Any and all updates (if there are any) will be on the web site.

Easy Manual : My wife made mine where she works. Took 7 minutes to print the whole manual, all sections. Printed on notebook plain paper, took out, set in binder, done. I could have done it at home, it was easier on their big machines.
