RE: Two batteries into AR9000?
The AR9000/R921 do not have two battery 'slots' (ports).
They have one battery/binding port and one data port.
As power distribution is handled (as usual) via bus bar then a second, third etc. battery may be inserted in in any of the other open ports. You may even use a 'Y' harness and plug in extra batteries to your hearts content.
Since the center pole is positive it is not possible to plug in batteries except in parallel. To do so you would have to rewire the plug.
Should you plug one in "backwards" you simply have an open circuit as the negative is now connected to signal.

My R921 has 2 ports--they are labeled...bat1/bind and bat2/data. Is that how yours is ?

The JR/Spektrum elves must have done that while I was posting----- wrong TWICE in one lifetime. Drat!
However, the AR9000 as released showed only Battery/Bind on the left hand port and "Data" alone for the other. http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/D...odID=SPMAR9000

RE: Two batteries into AR9000?
Are these not like the other rx's whereby you can utilise any unused channel as they are all in parallel?

This is a great thread ! Not being that technically inclined, I am setting up my first gasser. QQ 86" Yak, DA50, 8611A servos, X9303-2.4 GHZ radio. Reading about regulators, power boxes, all the different battery choices, etc., etc., I have been suffering from TMI.
TMI: (Too Much Information). Do I need all this stuff ? Years ago, just put in a battery pack, charge, go fly. Now we have a multitude of gadgets. And, more gadgets to compliment the gadgets.
My plan: Two battery packs for the 921 RX, probably SR Batteries, or just buy JR packs from Horizon ? 4K mah 6V primary, 2K mah 6V backup. McDaniel Battery Backer or similar ? 2K mah or similar on ignition ?
Trying to use the KISS Method: Keep It Simple .........
Thanks,
Vince

Dual 5 cell identical NimH low inductance packs each into their own switch harness, one into the battery port, the other into a lower used servo port. "Dats it!". No backers, no diodes, etc. I operate a BVM KingCat with 7 digital servos and she does just fine. Less stuff to fail. Check out hangtimehobbies.com NoBS batteries. The 2,000mah elite cells are nice. The 3600 allow much extra capacity. Remember, these will be in parallel and the inductance will be halved while the capacity is doubled. A WIN WIN for sure.
Be SURE to setup the throws/servos using an amp meter. Just a single blip on the end points CAN make a HUGE difference in servo draw.

Being basically 'financially-challenged' ( AKA CHEAP) we put our 2.4 set-up in this plane without anything other than two battery packs - both 6 volt...no reg's; power panels; etc.....and it WORKED!!!! My son had a blast flying this bird with the 2.4 (after we had a 'hit' on Channel 45).....so thanks for the advice!

Just don'ty charge both packs at the same time. Charge each one selperately. That's what I was told. The packs share the common ground with the reciever and I guess the switches only shut off the power side. What I just said make any sense?
