Danny:
This was posted what do you say?
I havAR9100 Soft Switch
Modification
Owners of AR9100’s are requested to
eliminate the center wire of the soft
switch. This can be done by removing
and cutting the center pin, or simply by
snipping the center wire. Both methods
are shown below, and will prevent any
chance of a ground short occurring with
switch input.
I have one and want to be safe.
Thank You
Jay

Jay, cut the red Middle wire. You are asking for trouble if you dont.

I've checked my switch with a multi-meter and there is only continuity between the signal and ground wire with the switch in one position. I don't have any continuity between those leads and the power lead with the switch in either position.
Hopefully Danny will be back around soon and maybe offer some input on this possible problem as well.

@ Zeeb: Open the soft switch and you see this!
The red wire in the soft switch has no function. Unfortunately it has been cut off in such a way that some copper filaments can easily make a short against the mass inside the switch housing.
It is better to remove the red wire from the soft switch.

Oh man that's UGLY!
I couldn't figure out why they were using a three wire lead on the switch in the first place. I suppose it's because that is what they had on hand for building on/off switches for the Spektrum systems; light duty, three wire so you can bind the rx's.
Thanks for the heads up!
edit:
Do you mind if I post your pic over on "another" forum?

Joe,
Yeah you could do it, but it would be a bit of tinkering as the regular on/off switches have that common ground which drives us nuts on battery charging, and you only turn the positive (center) lead on/off with switch function.
The soft switch is very much like the bind plug in that it connects/disconnects the signal and ground leads. That picture shows the issue with the factory switch.

RE: AR 9100
There will be a soft switch fix posted on www.horizonhobby.com and www.Spektrumrc.com shortly. The way to eliminate the problem is to pull the red lead out of the male connector and cut it about 1/2" up. This will then not allow the power lead to make conntact. This is much easier than taking the switch apart.

It's way too bad as this forum has been a lot of help to lots of people, but Danny does not have the time to answer questions here on the forum anymore....[]
