35% extra 330 help...
I was just given a version of your old kit from a guy that bought if down at the Joe Nall from you this year... There are a few things I wanted to address to see if I am just crazy or if its just the design. First there is no thrust in the firewall, or the cowl. Also the motor doesn't mount in the center of the box. So did I get a bum plane that was just a lemon? Also I needed to know the CG on it because he told me to balance on the tube with the wings off but that is real tail heavy when I fly it like that....

I just bought an older 35% Extra 330 PAK kit from a guy who started the fuse but did not finish it. I have managed to get the construction manual but was wondering if there are plans for this plane that show more detail thatn the manual.

Al,
I did find out one more picture I need if you have it. That is a picture of the landing gear plate at the rear without covering. Thats the part of the plans that I have that is smeared.

Bruce,
There should be a solid hardwood block about 3 " x 3" it square and 3/8 " thick. That is the Tailwheel plate. You will nedd to shape it to the taper of the fuselage. The Basss wood stringers will mate up to the front of it.
I'll have kevin search the pictures and see if we have one we can send

RE: 35% extra 330 help...
Thanks Al. I received the fuse in about a 95% stage of completion without much of the wood. Also it appears that there are some mistakes which I can see now that I have a good copy of the plans that I received from you today. One example is the firewall. The plans state that it should be 3/8 Birch and mine is 1/4 Birch and is not assembled according to the plan. There is no Landing gear plate so I am going to have to fabricate my own. Most of the workmanship is good but it is obvious that the person had never flown large planes.
I appreciate you help. Its great to see a manufacturer support his product.

Hi Bruce,
The LG plate is 1/4 inch and should not be to much of a problem to fabricate. It mounts to each side. You will need to support each end and around the motor box with some tri stock. Tail wheel plane can be easily made also using the same material.
The 1/4 plate on the firewall is usable. I suggest you use some light weight fiberglass cloth and resin to glass it in. That will be strong enough if you do that.
When you set up the root rib on the wing you need to epoxy the phonolic into the wing. It probably is just a tight fit right now. Also check the tapper of the root rib on the fuselage. You may have to trim it to match before gluing on the root rib.

Currently we do not have the 35% 330 PAK in stock to do a build thread. This shipment are all the 300 and are all ARF's 2.5. 2.7 and 3.2 meter planes.
If you email me at [email protected] I will try to help you out with your build

RE: 35% extra 330 help...
Question for Al,
I have a DA-85 and would like to build either your 2.5 m extra or 2.7m extra for it. I see the fuselage length dimensions. Is this dimension from spinner to tail? Do you have available all up wieghts, wing area, etc? Lastly, are they available uncovered?
Unfortunately, the website is very vague with information and I would really like to find out more.
Thanks,
Steve

RE: 35% extra 330 help...
Hi Steve,
The length is spinner to tail, The wing area on the 2.5 meter is 1600 sq in and the 2.7 meter is 1950 sq in. We are not offering any planes as ARC's or PAK at this time
We are putting both planes together right now. The 2.7 meter airframe weighs in at 13 pounds. ( no equipment) Actually finish weight depends on how its STUFFED!!! With a DA100 we should be right around 25 pounds or less flying weight, less with the 85. I would not hesitate putting the 85 in one. Actually I probably will be putting an 85 in one of the 2.7M later. I only have one 85 at this time so its going in the 2.5
The 2.5 is designed for a single cyclinder engine. It actually was designed around the DA85. Flying weight on that will be under 20lbs. it should also fly well on the 50 but outstanding on the 85.
Hopefully this answers some of your questions. Let us know if you have more
Thanks
Al
