Default k 80 RPM trouble

I have a K 80 that has been showing erroneous RPMs at start up and after the engine has been running for a few minutes .
As soon as the hand data terminal "reads "glow plug test," the HDT reads 64,000 RPMs and then it will read normal during the spin up. After it goes into "running " mode, the engine runs fine for a while during taxi and then , all of a sudden , the engine starts increasing power on it's own without my input . I'll apply brakes and go over to it and hook up the HDT and notice that the HDT reads 0 RPMs and then , the engine will shut down . And ideas on what could be the problem will be greatly appreciated .

Sounds like a bad RPM sensor. They dont fail often but sometimes do fail. Also could be the wiring to the sensor. I would check the wiring and of nothing found send it in the Dirk and he will get it turned real quick for you.
