Great Planes PT-20 build
Well I thought I may as well post about the current kit I'm working on, not mine but my wifes! She is going to help me cover it once I get it framed up. This will be her first model so i think it will be interesting to teach her to fly a model as well. (Also teaching her how to fly full scale in our citabria) I'll post some pics soon if anyone is interested. I am going to convert it to electric to make it simple and safer for her too.

RE: Great Planes PT-20 build
My first RC plane was a PT-20, built 25 years ago and the wing still sits in the hobby room. The firewall was reglued in place so many times I can't remember the number. I'd like to see if the kit has changed in all these years.
You may want to consider setting it up without the ailerons working at first, mine flew like a slow sport plane and getting it inverted was all to easy and the reason for a couple of repairs.
Have fun with the build.

RE: Great Planes PT-20 build
Ok I'll try to post some pics tonight of what i have done or I mean WE have done since she has helped build part of it so far. I am going to set it up with ailerons since I'll be on the buddy cord with her for a while. I think it will be interesting working with her learning to fly it will help me remember how much fun it was learning when i started.

I would deviate from the instructions for building the wings. The recommended amount of dehedral is huge, even for the "sport" wing. I'd build it with about 3 inches. Since you are using ailerons, and a buddy box, I think it will be more fun with a slightly flatter wing.

Pay close attention to the wood mainly the spars. You may need to start a regiment of wetting them and hanging weight on them to get them straight. The quality of wood in this kit is no where near that of Sig or the likes of BUSA.

RE: Great Planes PT-20 build
My PT-60 (and the one my brother built) had very straight spars
My Rapture had spar sticks so bent that I replaced them with some I had in my wood pile
