Default Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown

I'll be starting my B-USA Citabria Pro within a week or so. Plans are to put a DLE-20 in it (which is my first venture into gas). Anyone out there built one that can throw me some build tips, tricks, or suggestions for this plane?

Thanks in advance!!!

I am going to be doing almost exactly the same project this winter. I was kinda thinking of using the dle 30, but not sure if it will be too much engine for the airframe. Ill be watching this thread closely.

Lately I've been flying my electric at a local park. Haven't flown any of my glows in a loooong time. But when I did it was at 107th and LaGrange Road. I've still been building glow kits and I've got four that are itching to get in the air. I've gottafind a spot closer to Bolingbrook. I REALLY love to build and I'm really disappointed that there are fewer and fewer kits out there.

Where do you fly and how long have you been in the hobby?

Wow, I started about 15 years ago also. When the kids came along I didn't get a chance to fly as much, but I never stoppedbuilding.

Looking forward to the Citabria, especially putting a gas engine in it. It'll be a new challenge. I REALLY wanted to build the giant RV-4, but it only comes in an ARF. No fun. How does it fly with the flaps?

The DLE30 would be too much engine for this airframe. I'd go with the DLE20 as the model flies well with a 90/120 4S.

Wow, sounds like we're living parallel lives. However, my son is not all that interested rc. He DOES like flying the Real Flight simulator though. My daughter, just like yours, is into her own thing.

The planes look GREAT! Was it a pain to recover?? I haven't even started the Citabria yet and I'm already thinking about my NEXT kit. I've got a brand new OS 46FX that's been waiting for a home for years. I'll probably put it in a 40 size RV-4. Ahhh, decisions, decisions.....

Everyone is telling me the DLE-20 is a PERFECT match for the PRO. Mine is on order at Tower. Should ship early November, which is fine. Really excited about this plane and my first gas engine.
I just started the wing this week.

Haven't given much thought to the prop yet. There is a DLE-20 thread in the gas engine forum that gives some good information on different sizes. As far as the tank is concerned, I'll probably go with a sullivan 14oz.slant tank (withagas conversion kit theyoffer). This is my first gasser so it will be fun getting everything setup. What type of ignition cutoff switch are you going to use?

Happened to be reading you guys thread. A 14oz tank is huge overkill for the DLE20. The DLE55's I run use 12 oz tanks and fly for over 20 minutes. 6oz would fly a DLE20 for 30 minutes I bet. Jerry.

Thanks for the tank advice. I guess I have to get out of the glow engine mindset.

Ok, here are some pics of the start of the PRO. I like to print the instructions, paste them to a poster board, and hang them in from of my building area. It works really well and allows me to read backwards and forward easily and quickly.

Rye, I definitely agree that you have read CAREFULLY. I've actually found a few things the I THINK are out of order, but maybe it's just me.
I see you've installed the aileron leading edge. I found it kind of odd that it requires that the leading edge be angled forward in order to mate with the aileron ribs. I read that sections several times to make sure I understood.

Mlaster, YES LOTS OF STICKS. It would have been nice if they had bundled the sticks together by size. It took me a bit to go through and separate everything. But oh well. I am actually missing two of the 3" balsa sheets. Trip to the hobby store I guess
#$@%^&!

I'm having fun so far. More pics to come!!!!!!!!!

hi
should i but in wing spar braceing if i do i going to have to but some on the other side where the strud bolts go and the servo mount will this still give the same effect if i do this it does not call for it but i think it will make the wing stronger and with the power of the DLE-20 i dont think the weight make a diffenet, thanks
