Default Help ID this plane/rebuild/Its Eliminator 40

This is one of three birds that I am working on right now. My son bought this plane from a member last year. He got to fly it for a few flights, and on his last flight, the engine died.
He made it to the ground just fine, but he wasnt looking ahead, and it rolled into a post. The wing was damaged, and the tail got busted in one spot. The hardest part of repair is getting the old monokote off.

The person we bought it from, never told us the name, he just said that he scratch built it from plans.

It was really a nice flying plane. You could slow it down to walking speed on landings, and would move like a stick.

Would like to know the name of this plane, so maybe I can put it on the covering job.

What are the strigers running lengthwise on the outside of the fuselage for? Does that give it a bit of a rounded look when it is covered?

I think the idea was to give it roundness when covered. But I also think it could have been to hide the nasty grain/fit of the wood used for fuse.

This post is also a rebuild log as well. Tonight I have gotten as much of the old covering off, sanded, and ailerons dry fitted. Going out to cover the wing now.

I HATE MONOKOTE! I spent the last 2 hours trying to cover just the bottom of the wing. The monokote will not shrink. There are wrinkles all over! Has the sealing iron at its highest setting, and then tried the heat gun, and burned a hole in one spot!!!!

I should have listen to my inner voice and bought U L T R A C O T E!!!!!!.

I hope that the maker of monokote gets their act together, this is the 3rd time I have had problems with their product. I know..... I will use it for Christmas wrapping paper!!!!!!

It is annoying to look at up close but it will look great when you and your son are flying it.

carrellh, thanks for the positive comment. I am just mad at my self for buying monokote again. The lhs does not carry ultracote, so I have to order it. And at the time, it was just easy to pick up monokote.
It is a very fun plane to fly, and no matter what it turns out to look like, we will have fun with it.
I do have some lime green Ultracote that I will be using on the ailerons and fuse.

The wing looks like crap, but it will do. The ailerons are covered in lime green Ultracote, and came out perfect!!!

I just might order some orange and one more lime green ultracote, and do the wings right. But I plan on getting this bird in the air this weekend, so I gota use what I have.

I've Used monokote since 1967 and just finished up a c/L model for a prototype build. While the product isn't as sturdy as the old material I didn't have any shrinking or attaching problems. I am aware that it does burn through, something that was really hard to do with the older material. Still, I think that technique rather then material is at play here. good covering no matter with whatever you chose is the result if practice.

If I had done the wing in ultracote, there would have been 90% less wrinkles. I am no pro when it comes to covering, but I can tell the difference in the two, or even other brands. I have just finished covering a Herr Star Cruiser wing with solite. And there is two spots that have wrinkles due to my misstake.
I have used in the past, monokote lite transparent with better results, Microlite good results, ultracote greate results, ultracote lite transparent great results.

The monokote that I have used has been bought from my lhs, and I know that it could have been on the shelf for a good while. There were three to four layers of old price tags on them. Anyway, that is just me, I am going to stay away form monokote and use the brands that work for me.

Eliminator 40 WS 56", 775 sq. in. 4 lb flying weight, .25-.40 engine. You are missing the leading edge slots on yours.

This was a fun fly plane from 1992, made by HIGH T.E.K. models in Grand Rapids, MI 616-458-2261

idoxlr8-RCU, Thank you so much. I did a search for two hours lastnight with no luck. And yes, I do have the slats for the leading edge of wing, just forgot to put them in pictures. It also has end slats for the wing.

I can't believe you recognized the aircraft. Looks like they have 3 kits left.

Yea, I cant believe it either! Thats like the odds of winning the loto!

This plane is my sons. It was his secound plane. He bought it from a memeber at our club for 30 bucks ready to fly, with an os 40fp.
Our club instructor did a test flight with it to show my son how slow you can bring it down. It is just an amazing fun fly plane.

I probably will buy the kit in the future for myself to do an electric version.

Thanks eveyone for the info.

I will update with pictures when it is complete.

Well, I finished the Eliminator today, and my son got to fly it and so did I! Flies just as good as it did before the crash!

The old OS 40fp ran great. I took it apart a few days ago, and cleaned it up. I noticed that the head was leaking, so when I put it back together, I applied some gasket maker. Was worried what that would do, but it seemed to be the trick for the engine.
