Default Color Matching

I am in the process of finishing a Unionville Dehavilland Otter. The plane is covered in Monocote with the primary color being Orange. Top Flite no longer makes a matching spray paint for this color.

Any recommendations on what paint will provide a good match?

I have a friend who does auto body painting. He has matched and painted every color I have needed except one time. He couldn't match Ultracote Flourescent Pink.

You can find a paint store that uses a paint spectrometer and they should be able to get you real close. Probably have to buy a pint size can, brush on or send it thru an air brush. Clear coat with spray epoxy gloss if desired. Worked for me on one of my projects with an odd color green. I used Behr paint from our local lumber yard that does the spectrometer thing.

Thanks for the options. I had not thought of having paint matched.
Has anyone had experience with utilizing monokote over a fibreglass cowling? I tried a small test piece and it appears to stick. how long???

It can be done but it isn't always easy, you can even warp glass and plastic parts trying to get them covered. Auto paint stores can match and put the paint in a spray can for you. Radio South also has color match but it isn't cheap. I have used the water based paints that are sold in your LHS, these are used for lexan car body's, supposed to be fuel proof but I still give the paint several coats of clear fuel proof just to be safe.
