Wing attachment details are coming along. Did not want to use rubber bands for wing attachment so I decided to use a proven concept. I used 1/8" thick G10 glass polyester sheet and cutout a rib doubler with a fixing tab to be inserted into the front former. The G10 rib is epoxied to the root rib.
The rear of the wing will be anchored by 1/4-20 nylon screws.

This weekend I decided to make the wing struts, ended up being a big job. I brazed an 1/8" x 1/4" x 1" long peice of HR steel to a section of 6-32 all thread. Then ground to shape so the weldment would slide tightly into the airfoil shaped tubing. Anchored in the tube by means of (2 ea) solid rivets.
The strut attach brackets at the wing were made from extruded aluminum 'L' angle, 1/16" thick. The attach bracket at the fuselage is made from 1/16" x 1" aluminum sheet. This bracket can easily removed before covering, remove (4) 6-32 screws pull out from the side.
Bottom of the struts were crimped flat then bent to suit.
Next I shall start making new landing gear, I just don't like the aluminum unit supplied in the kit. The new gear will be similar to the original STM design, formed from music wire.

You are doing a great job. The hard points in your wing were the strut mounts are look a little on the weak side by what I see in the first picture.

Today I got back on my STM build, took a break and went dirt bike riding in Georgia.

The formed aluminum landing gear looked odd to me. Wire gear seems better suited to the design, my design has slightly forward swept gear legs. Also has a bit wider stance than the aluminum gear.

Covered the fuselage last night. Using Solartex, this stuff works very well. The blue paint on the engine compart doesn't match well enough, I'll have to change it.

Have read this thread numerous times now, nice build and your own personal touches is a plus. Have one on the way, have also received a set of Joe Birdi plans, and this set shows the wire main LG. It does not show the German design wing. Where again does one order these plans. Looking forward to more of this build. Thanks for sharing.

Question???????? Does anyone do a short kit f/the Senior Telemaster or the Telemaster 40. Could really use the one for the Telemaster 40, have already acquired a set of plans for that version, but also a short kit for the Senior would be cool.
I have just went nuts for the design and can not wait to build one. Reviewed the plans I have and wow, what a plane.

Came home today to a box on the door step. Inside was the Telemaster 40 I had won on eBay for $80.00. This is the Hobby Lobby version. In response to the above tip, I would buy one in a min if they ever get them back in stock, keep getting the notation: available Spring 2011, which was a month ago? I guess I will order one from Telemaster UK, a Senior that is! But still thanks for the info.

Thereis an other way you can go, cost a lot less.. Get a set of build plans from RCM #616, get the wing and horizontal stabilizer from Eureka Aircraft Company. The plans are $20 and the wing and stabilizer was around $45.

For several months now Hobby Lobby has been out of stock on the kits, they have ARF versions in stock.
I like building, I have never purchased an ARF, understand that hot glue is sometimes used in the building of some models.
Flying a model that you build yourself is rewarding, to me an ARF would not be as fun.

The tail surfaces are now done! The stab and rudder are not glued in place, just sitting on the fuselage.
I knew that the vintage white covering would show irregularities in color of the frame work but overall I am
satisfied with the results.
The main wing will have similar color scheme as the horizontal stabilizer.

Looking good there iampilot2, I do dig the covering myself and plan on a like type material when I cover mine. I used World Tex many many years ago to cover a Ole Timer and loved how the stuff worked. I have only got the stab about 75% done, but hope to get more done this weekend. I did luck up and nab a Saito RA-50 on eBay f/a really good price. Should have by the end of the week. I know, too much engine, but I am building heavy and this is the best deal I could find on what I really wanted to put into the nose, a Saito. If anyone has any tips about this, please feel free to help.I will be starting a thread soon. Yours is looking dope my friend. Can not wait to see her completed. Oh yea, got my fingers crossed, seems someone was reading my post and has a Senior they might let me purchase. Hope to hear from him soon. I have just gone Ga Ga over this design.

Looking forward to the thread of your build.

It has been many years since I built an R/C plane, this project has been a real joy.
My next build project is an Old Timer, 1939 Power House.

Went flying last night, used the club's Hanger 9 Alpha 40 trainer, really looking forward to getting my STM in the air.

Saito engines are nice, the Magnum engine I have seams okay but someday I'll step up to a better quality engine.
