calling rv-4 kit owners
I just got a Kit for christmas. It is a 40 sized great planes rv-4. I have already built a Carl Goldburg Falcon III. I finished that last year, and it took me a few years. it was and intermediate build for a teenager. how is the rv-4's build.
Thanks Alex

I'm moving this to the general Kits forum because it's a discussion, which does not belong in the Great Planes Support Forum. A Support forum is for people to ask us questions about their kits and for us to make the replies. Per RCU rules, Direct Support Forums are not areas for general discussons.

The Great Planes RV-4 is a real nice kit and builds fairly easy
but I can say that as I am an experienced builder, if you take
your time and don't rush, who says you have to build it in a certain
amount of time...... Why not do a build thread here on RCU so
some us can give you guidance, it will make it all the more
pleasureable to have all of the years of knowledge here to guide
you along......

RE: calling rv-4 kit owners
i say BUILD THE FLAPS!!!! they're just like the ailerons, and they make it look sweet, and slow down nicely. i have a slight balooning when i drop them though. may still be going a little fast for them. but they are nice. wish i wasn't in the middle of recovering mine... i'd be out buzzing it around. it's a fun plane. the rest of the build wasn't that bad. the directions are straight forward and easy to follow. do a build thread. like stated, we'll help if you need. plus, not too many of them are on here. i would buy the cowl from FSI. the plastic one is kind of a brick, and maybe the wingtips as well. the ones in the kit are junk. i carved my own from blocks. the wheel pants aren't bad, i don't put them on because of grass. (and don't let the movers pack your planes... the reason for the recovering. they broke the vertical and part of the horiz stab off, and punched some holes in the fuse.) lessons learned!!!

Should I put a two stroke or a four stroke? Which one preforms best? Please give me a good brand for a four stroke if you like it better. I need to find a cheap one because they can get expensive.

RE: calling rv-4 kit owners
i have an o.s. .40FX with a bisson pitts muffler under the hood of mine. it doesn't go mach one or have unlimited vertical, but flies around nice enough for me. the .46AX may be a tad more power and price, but i don't fly enough to notice the difference if there is one. i think if i was going to buy a 4-Banger, i would get a magnum myself. i've heard good things about them here (don't know anyone owning and operating one personally) and they're a lot cheaper than the o.s. and saito. BUT... you get your money's worth.

I have this kit for future project but have also built and flown one before. REAL nice Kit and flier..It will be a easy build and fun, Just read through the book carefully and you will enjoy the kit....make sure and build the flaps...they're fun.....I have several Magnum 4 stroke motors and one has almost 5 gallons run through it (52-4 stroke) and they are Great..Run the valve lash once a year and add after run oil when done flying.....great motors!

wow. i like the color schemes. i need to finish recovering mine. i have 3 planes going through different stages of covering right now. probably my biggest nemisis of the building process. it takes forever to design the scheme, then color matching the paint... mmmm yeah. excellent job on the RV's though.

Rye, where did you get the cowl for the yellow and white one? i see on the bottom of the nose it has the little part sticking out. i think for a light, maybe??? mine is just flat on the bottom and slides right back to the back of it. is that the one from FSI? if so, sign me up. looks much better the the kit one.

I am currently building & re-doing the Byron RV-4 which is a 33% and plan to
do it in a local one that is within an hours drive from home and he even sometimes
comes into our local airport, especially when the Baton Rouge EAA club has there
monthly breakfast there. Some pics of "The Sting" for your pleasure.
BTW the gentleman with the hat on in the cockpit and one side view is the builder
of the plane but not the current owner.
