Default RE: top flite p-47

I am completed with my 1/7 Jug. I am hoping this weekend will be a good one for flying. It weighed 9.5lbs and with the supertiger .75 I hope it will perform in a scale type manner. I balanced it per the instructions with the gear down which proved to be a little nose heavy. Then I balanced it with the gear up and it proved to be strait and level on the c.g. machine. I am not to sure if it is better to balance with the gear up or the gear down? What should I go off of?

You definately want to blanace it for flight with the gear retracted. Good luck on your maiden flight. I just started on my T/F P-47 and I'm going to power mine with a Saito FA-100 FS.

I was fine tunning the .75 and found that when the engine was running at the mid range it would billow smoke as if it were rich and then when I went to idol it quit. I think it might be over-heating but it runs fine at full throtle. Any advice as to what it may be? (I have the repilca engine but I haven't put it in yet, probably after the first couple of flights)

sounds like maybe the low-end needle is set a bit too rich? is it running differently in the plane than it was on the test bench? could be a difference in fuel tank location, so maybe you just need to re-tune it. maybe post or search in the Engines forum and see if you can get some help on that.
by the way, good luck on the maiden!!! Im building a 1/7 Jug for flight this spring, Im still in construction but should be ready to cover soon. Im looking forward to hearing about how she flies.

I test flew the p-47 this morning and it flew good. It wanted to climb quit a bit but once I throttled back to half it smoothed out. After about 5 minutes I noticed a weird vibrating noise and landed immediately without any miss hap. The noise was the prop rubing a hole in the cowl because one of the cowl mounts busted lose. Taxing was a little difficult on the grass runway. It is a keeper!!!!!
