Default Global P-39 Scraps

How many have seen or bought a kit that looks like this. All is not lost as new parts can be cut from the scraps.the important pieces are there, plans, manual, canopy, landing gear exhaust scopps.all major fuselage parts are missing as well as wing ribs but the die cut sheets they were removed from remain relatively intact.will be substituting balsa for the lite ply sides and doing this brushless.

I just finished a kit for a friend that looked like that. I spent a lot of time on the scroll saw and sander. He bought the kit from a friend that required parts after a crash but was smart enough to keep the knock out sheets. There was a lot more missing then he thought though. I will never build a parts missing kit for anyone else again, for myself yes. If it's something I really want.

with kits getting hard to find and harer each year as old stock is bought and built we may have no choice in the not so distant future.
anyway with the plans and the die cut sheet put in place over the plan the actual shape of the fuselage can be seen and then after tracing all the ajoining parts can be rawn also.

I fully agree. A few missing wood parts wouldn't stop me from buying a used/opened kit. Like scratch building, it's something I will do for myself but not for someone else. This last build I did reminded me why. I ended up using every sheet of light play and a big bunch of sheeting I had in my shop. I keep my eyes open for old kits and even if some of the plastic parts or glass parts are missing I can usually find what I need. If I found a Cobra or P-38 kit I sure wouldn't care if it wasn't 100%. Better missing parts then a started kit though. I built a started Texas twins Extra 260 and it took me longer to correct the started parts then to build the plane. Did turn out nice though.
