Sig Hogg Bipe Question + show us yours!!!!
Can any one of my fewllow kit builders tell me when the Sig Hogg Bipe was designed? There is a fly-in happening in May and one of the requirements is that your kit had to be designed in the 70's or older. I'm not sure this kit is that old but it would be nice to fly my twin "twins"!
BTW, of all the kits I've ever built, this one is my all time favorite. I've been lightly building for 15 years now.
***Update*** I communicated with the event CD and said that since the Hobb Bipe was derived from the Astro Hog (designed in the 50's), he said no problem! Since this thread has kind of expanded, I'd like to invite everyone to post pics of their Hogg Bipe!

I think I built mine in 1993 +- a couple of years. The kit had not been out long. It was my first Laser cut kit and I was very impressed with the precision of the build. I don't think there was a die cut version, I think just laser cut so it wouldn't have been old enough for it to meet the criteria.

The Sig Hog Bipe has not been around that many years. No way it was designed in the 70s. I would guess it is a 90s design.

I'm pretty sure Carlgrover is right. I'm going to say 1996. I may have some old plans....I'll check.

Nice looking Bipe Auggie!!!!! I like the Blu/Wht combo. Looks like you did a good job on that covering.
As for interesting interpretation... Works for me!!!!! The CD told me that the premise of the Fly-in was to get "old school" RC planes out there and not the usual hord of Extra Arfs you typically see at all these fly-ins. While I like to see anyone flying in this hobby, it seems that there are fewer and fewer folks out there who take the time to build. Personally, I enjoy the building aspect of the hobby just as much as the flying part. I especially enjoy the pride I take in having a trailer full of planes that were all built by MY own hands rather than the stuff that comes out of China. Another nice thing about building my own is the fact that my planes don't look like all the other arf's out there. TO me, when you build your own - those planes have a personality. I try to build at least 2 planes a year. When I started in the hobby in the mid 90's, there really wasn't any "ARF's". Of the Arf's that were available, they were seriously expensive. My first year into the hobby, I built 4-5 planes. THe first one was a 30 size high wing trainer. After crashing it a few times, I moved up in complexity and eventually built a 60 size F-15 kit that I flew for 4-5 years. I really loved that plane!

Keep building alive! I have 3 or 4 ARF's that caught my eye for one reason or another but the other 20 are all kit/plans built. I honestly think I enjoy building more than the actual flying.....it keeps me busy. You might spend 200 hours building a plane and that's a lot more time than 100, 10 minute flites! The Hog Bipe is a nice kit. I'm working on a Spacewalker II from Sig which is equally nice. BUSA also makes some nice kits. If you want an (expensive) challenge, try a Flair kit out of Great Britain. I just finished their 60" sport scale Sopwith Pup (called a puppeteer) and have a Fokker D VII waiting in the wings. Their kits are fun because they have a British sense of humour on building techniques and come with few instructions. But they fly very well.
Good luck at the contest!

I'm with Ken - Wheel pants are worthless when it comes to grass runways! Every plane I've ever had... I spend a few hours on painting/stiping nice whee pants and they are torn up the first day. I've had wheel pants end up flipping my planes too if the pants catch a hole or tall grass.

But a few years ago the kit was updated to include laser-cut parts. The plans may have been updated at that time too.

You're thinking of the original Astro Hog kit, which has been around since the late fifties or early sixties. The Astro Hog Biplane came out in the late eighties or early nineties, IIRC.

When was the Hog Bipe designed, I have no idea. I will say I have built a few in the last 12 yrs or so and love them. I had to quit flying due to health a couple years ago but after seeing these beauties here I might have to at least dig out the plans and build another just have something to keep me busy. Love the BLUE/WHITE Wild Cat Air scheme
