Constrictor,

I wouldn't think prop clearance would be an issue if you went to a three blade prop. I'd say go for it.......

I have a 4Star60 with a YS 110. It's a tail dragger with Dubro 60 composite landing gear & 3 1/4" tires - the fuse is 6 1/2" off the ground at the landing gear mount. It has an APC 14" 2-blade prop. There is 2 1/2 - 2 3/4" clearance when the tail is held at a slight "tail high" attitude. Icould go to a 16" prop with no clearance problems. Kinda fun.

Tom
Constrictor (Tom) and noveldoc,

I could not resist coming to say "hello" to noveldoc.
We used to have lots of dialogue a while ago.

Tom ___The age of realisitic flying like with a Kadet is long gone.
Now nearly everyone wants more thrust than the weight of the model.

Climbing straight up is of the order of the day.
Many are expecting a helicopter that looks like an airplane and flies like a heli.

Times do change ___and we keep up with the changes to some degree.
Some of us still like to fly "realistically" particularly if we have hundreds or thousands of hours in full size airplanes.

Many of us still looks at modelling as a hobby ; building our own design, putting a kit together, making modifications to a kit, gluing and covering it for a long life and minimum crash damages,

Nothing wrong with the desire to fly like that fellow I read recently who swiitched transmitter and bought 27 receivers for his hangar. No doubt he also has the money to buy a new RTF for every crash that is not repairable. ARFs and RTFs are made to promote a new sale upon a bad landing. An observation from what I see at the flying field.

Now my best friends in this forum can disagree with my outlook on the hobby. A fair size industry for a few enterprises.

Enjoy your flying no matter what is your hobby oulook.

What's cool about this hobby - you can do it "your way".

I happen to use my 4Star60 as a run-in platform for engines. OS61FX, OS91FX, ST G90, Saito 91, Saito 100, YS 110 - they all can use the same Hayes motor mount. Just need 2 different throttle cable locations. Not literally - some need different hole locations along the beams but they all bolt to the firewall using the same holes.

That's "my way" in my best Frank Sinatra croon voice ...

I'm currently running a Kadet Senior with an OS 91FX 3 blade 13 x 8 Master Airscrew and using a Sullivan SUL414 16oz tank
NOTE converted to taildragger.

Just make sure to add some extra tri-stock around the firewall.

the YS 110 is my favorite motor of all time. i like a 16-6 apc prop and i know prop clearance will be an issue because i already know that a 12" prop is an issue!
Tail dragger is out, i love the trike gear. May have to bend my own new gear.

I would make sure the joints are very good and tight when you build the plane. I would even gusset them. All those stick joints in the fuse would "worry me" with that much power. I think it is all balsa as well if memory serves me. I haven't flown mine for several years but a cheap magnum 52 4 stroke almost hover it. In a little breeze it would with the nose dipped a bit from straight up. I built barn door ailerons into mine as well as removing most of the dihedral.

I would rather install a DLE 20cc engine. Enough power to 3D, but sooooo inexpensive to operate burning gas/oil mix.

Ed. Your missing the point. My all time favorite engine is the us 110. I choose my airframes to fit it. Makes no sense to pick a plane for my favorite engine then change engines.
