Default Ultracote midnight blue paint match.

Does anyone have a solution to matching ultracote midnight blue besides finding an auto paint store and having them match it?
Any commercial spray cans krylon, duplicolor etc match it?
Anyone know of any Hanger 9 matching spray paint still available? I think they stopped selling it a while ago.

Thanks,
Stuart

Before they quit making the paint I bought up some while I could. Even if the can says it is MNB doesn't guarantee it is a perfect match. I just went through the color match game with a friend just trying to match Cub Yellow. What a pain. You would think no mater who makes the paint Cub Yellow is Cub Yellow!! You can get the color match from Radio South but it isn't cheap. Latex paint from Lowe's will match using there computer matching system but then you will need to spray on a fuel proof clear coat like Top Flight.. Gas powered planes the Latex requires nothing for a clear coat. NItro is a paint killer.

Gas plane and I was going to clear it. A bunch of club members have had good luck with Minwax water base polycryl, mostly on their scale planes, not sure how high a gloss it can acheive. Never tried it myself but that is what I was going to test. I went to Home depot and they were able to match the yellow and grey that I brought but the blue wasn't even close. The blue needs to be real close as it will be on the cowl and meets the covering.
Thanks,
Stuart

Stuart,

debating the same issues at the moment. Want to match some dark green covering (which I haven't chosen yet). Did you have Home Depot match the blue covering? If it's off, they can usually fix it by rematching unless of course they have gone too dark.

GB, does TF Lustrekote stick well to latex paint? I'd be concerned with Polycrylic as I don't think it is that resistant to nitro. Does nicely on glassing though!

Yes they used their color match system and even tried a second time, but really not even close. I had them do ultracote yellow and gray and those were good enough.

Mmm...

I'll have to try my own luck - see how it goes.

Anyone know of the best "dark forest green" covering out there? Dunno what Ultracoat has but MK is too light - looking for something deep and rich - and then the paint to match.

"You would think no mater who makes the paint Cub Yellow is Cub Yellow!! "

If you really believe that, buy several different brands of white. Apply them in the same fashion, over the same undercoat, and compare the results. You may be in for an education:-)))))))))))))

Stuart,
Rust-Oleum Navy Blue is a great match. I used them on this model.

Cool looking model!

Does it actually fly!? have some more pics?

I assume you used Ultracoat on the wings and Rustoleum on the fuses?

David, it flew until it experienced some sort of radio problem. Built another and made some aerodynamic changes that yielded really poor flight as if extremely nose heavy, and it broke on 2nd landing. Yes Ultracoat on wings and Rustoleum on vacuum formed fuselage shells.

Jim, no clear coat on the Rustoleum; many colors, but not all, are fuel proof to glow fuel
