GP Super Skybolt Kit
Just bought a Great Planes Super Skybolt kit on ebay. I have been looking for something to build and was lucky to get this one. It will be my first biplane build. Has anybody built one of these, and does anyone have any suggestions, tips, mods, or anything I should consider.
Thanks,
Jeff

It's a challenging build, but just follow the instructions and you'll do fine. It is one of the best flying planes I have ever owned! It has the best wing/strut attachment I have ever seen on any biplane and it does an incredible inverted flat spin!
Build it with all 4 ailerons!

The engine and tank mounting are a bit of work, you have to make some room. Other then what Mike mentioned about the 4 ailerons just build it to the plans. The last Bolt kit I bought was at and auction, picked it up for $10.00. I opened the box but just to see what the wood looked like and never gave it any thought or bother to look at the plans. Next day I rolled out the plans and wondered what this was all about?? Where the heck is the top wing?? That sure is a long Bolt. It took me a few minutes to figure this out, it was before my first cup of coffee. The box top was a Bolt, the Kit was a CG Extra!!!Not a problem, the CG Extra is a favorite plane and build but I really wanted another Bolt!!

$10.00. I'm a club auction hound and one of the few builders I know. I'm also out of my Bipe Faze. The most I have paid for a kit in years is $20.00. The last 4 were free.

RE: GP Super Skybolt Kit
I now have to drive 7.5 hours to get to the old club to go to the auction so I don't bother. Before I moved here I gave the opening bid of $10.00 for a Royal Giant Scale Corasir with the spun cowl. I was after the wood for scratch building. No one bid against me and I got the kit. When I got home I opened the box and discovered no one had ever even unrolled the plans. I didn't have the money to build the plane so I ended up selling it. I came home with several kits that day, all $10.00 opening bids. I was given a couple of 1/2A kits that a friends grand son won in a skate board contest, someone tossed them in as a prize. Another club member was moving and gave me a couple of Texas Twins kits, good planes but old school builds. I'm out of kits at the moment but have three plans builds going. One on the bench right now. One of them I have templates and plans for that I was lucky enough to get the templates from an RCU member. {Name withheld} {Plane not mentioned} Anyone with a Bolt kit should be drawing the templates of every part before there is ever a bottle of glue opened!!! It's cheaper to cut your own kit then to try to buy one. I also met a guy at the field, older then me with a stock pile of kits he mentioned he would never get round to building!!! I'm making a new best friend!!!
