RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Hi guys, I've been reading with interest this whole thread,I would love to do half as good a job as you all have.I think the job redbiscuits has done is one of the best looking I think I have ever seen ,the plane is a credit to your workman ship and only wish I could see it in real life. this thread has inspired me no end and I will keep it on hand for when I get to build my own.I would build the razor back though it is the most toughest looking ever.I think between redi, zor and mustangman there is knowledge to be learnt and I hope to use some of that in my build.
thanks again guys

This is a very cool technique. I've always used an airbrush to do this, but that is a lot of work, as you still have a sharp line to sand out. Thanks for the tip.

I take it that when your spray, holding the gun perpendicular to the surface is a must so the foam allows the paint to fade-out?

I should've grabbed the oil/water seperator from work before I left, the wind is changing directions and there is a lull.
I could've got the dang fuse painted.[:@]
Oh well, this is the last post that ya'll will see the ugly primer.[8D]

Okay, I want to order the chin piece for the cowl from Fiberglass Specialties. GREAT, It's only 14 bucks, what a bargain right? I go to check out and select the ONLY option for shipping, and they want to charge me $17.06 for shipping the thing!!!

Hello folks
Back from vacation.....
Gary you're amazing as usual.....excellent job!
Before I left I finally completed the tail gear mechanism. It was driving me crazy and looking at other way that people did it with small pushrod and such, I could not find the right geometry to have the gear retract without hitting the doors with the tail wheel shaft.
The only way to fit it seems that you have to cut the shaft shorter and re weld it the piece together.
Too much trouble for me, so what i came up with, it is similar to my P-51
The pictures below are self explanatory and the door closes and open with very little effort.
Also for those of you that are looking to blend two different color with a "misty" line, unless you are lucky enough to find Gary's tape for free, I have used with success the following method.
Please look at the pictures for clarification.
Just tape a piece of newspaper and masking tape to the desired line and then fold the paper over the tape like in the picture.
Of course you must keep the gun at 90 deg. for it to work.
Fabio

Thanks buddy, good to have you back.
Good tip on the masking, thanks for posting that.
I haven't even cut my tail doors out yet for that very reason, I may add them later down the road after I get the maiden out of the way, will see.

Gary, I've been with you from the start. This is an awesome model! The kit you bought for the rivits and panels and screws, etc. made it. You will stand proud at the "WARDBIRD" events!!!! I am going to get a kit of the 47 soon.
Keep it up.......We love the pic's...
