Gents,
I'm looking for a concensus for setting up my flaps.
a) 3 position toggle switch
b) proportional slider
c) other.. I'm open for ideas
Hi Mirce,
I love the results I got on my TF P-47. I have found a much better transfer tape, which speeds the process.
PM me if your interested.
Cheers,
Mike

Mike I use a slider, it has a center indent and a beep that lets me know where I am. I have found I need different amounts of flap for different conditions. If I have a good head wind less flaps, no head wind high temps, I use all I can get. The three position method has it's place also, I just prefer to have a bit more flexibility.

I like the three position switch but I only use two settings, take off flaps and full flaps for landing, I use throttle for different conditions, more throttle with a head wind, less throttle with less wind but always full flaps. The air speed indictor will help to keep my speed the same in all conditions.

Hey man, I am just starting on the fuselage. So while looking at the plans I see a couple of things and was wondering what you did on yours?
1. Plans show a 2+ degree right hand thrust offset. Did you do that or did you use not offset thrust?
2. Plans show a soft mount for the engine. Did you use a soft mount or did you mount it rigid to the firewall?
I have the EME-60 and was wondering if the soft mount as shown on the plans will work for the the EME?
Anyway thanks in advance
Glenn

Hey Guys,
Its been a while but I am happy to report a successful maiden on my "Jug". I only
made (1) short flight but she handles well. Too chicken to pull the gear up though
Only a few clicks of right aileron and a bit of down trim.
Currently adding the finishing paint touches and ordered a scale prop
from Scale Specialties.
Taking her to the "Columbus Scale Classic" August 16th and 17th in Columbus OH

We'll Mikey got me working on the P-47. Finely started the ZDZ 80 on the plane, Surprisingly it started pretty easy. Just followed the starting procedures. This is my first gas so there is a bit of concern with a plane this size and all the STUFF I have on it. The ZDZ runs great idles around 1,600 rpm, didn't see what the wot rpm were. Transitions great. I have a bunch of work to get it in the air though, so I doubt I try it this year. I have a video and will try to post it later.

Hi Glenn
I did the soft mount on mine but to keep from having to add weight to the front I made the soft mount plate from a piece of 7/16 steel, so when I did the final balance only had to add 3 oz's and molded that in to the cowl when adding the chin divider, also used a cast dummy engine, I like my war birds a tad nose heavy, mine is 32lbs, with a G-62 and flies good , not a speeder but it will do all of the aerobatic a war bird should do.
I don't have a clue on the performance of the EME-60, but if I was to do it again I would go for the biggest engine I could get in the cowel
Cheers Bob T

Bob, thanks. The soft mount did not work out for me. I am not adding any extras to the bird other than self start. We will see how she does. Worse case scenario is if the EME 60 is not enough, i'll get a bigger engine lol

Ok guy's finally got my maiden in yesterday, lol almost a year after finishing hehe, actually I changed radio's and had a servo malfunction last time i went to fly it, damn near caught on fire
Anyways it went very well jumped right off the ground with half flaps , flies very slow it was almost funny trying to get it to stall, landing was deadstick after about 18 minutes vent line melted against muffler
sealed, choked it out of fuel, fuel tank sides were all sucked in. Love it yates

Congrats on the maidens ya'll, sorry I missed your posts. Been busy with a new job and don't have the web surfing time that I used to.
Anyway, trying to get mine ready for this weekend. I've changed radios to a DX18 and I finally decided to program it for the jug. Looking forward to a remaiden soon.

Thanks to those who recommended the plane and engine combo. I'm happy I went with the lighter DLE 55 instead of the 3w75 I was considering. It has plenty of power for my style. It stops going up when I back off the throttle and I am not running out of power doing sportsman acro by any means. Even with less than a gallon through the engine, once I can get it running at the start of the day, it runs smooth, reliably and very strong as you can see in the first video. I haven't flown a plane anywhere near this heavily wing loaded in a quite a while so that's getting some use to. I prefer my no flap landings to flap landings so far. The engine is canted off to the side a little because I use the stock muffler - another great tip I got from here. All Robart electric retract system. Only around 4 ounces of lead on the engine mount to help balance it as I mounted my LiFe servo pack and NiCad ignition pack also on the engine standoffs. On the first flight, the left gear came off on landing. It popped right out and cleanly took the U shaped lite ply plate out with it and still screwed to the gear. That plate wasn't epoxied in well at all from the factory. The wood it attached to in the spar was also ply instead of the hardwood the slow build kit calls out for. So I cut the ply mount out the wing rib and put in hardwood block in it's place as the kit plans call out and I think that's going to really help save hassle down the road.
I was weary about using the stock fuel tank in the stock fashion but after only a few short flights I haven't had an issue but I'll keep an eye on things there.
After I figure out why the DLE 55 won't self prime and fix it, I hope it becomes the minimal fuss Gas and Go Thunderbolt! I'm not sure what's going on with the DLE. Is there a hand held starter with a large cup for these larger engines that'll run using LiPos? The Sullivan starter I use is just too big. Once it runs it's just as good as any other gas engine I've had the rest of the day but the first start attempt is frustrating without a starter. No it's not flooding, it's not pulling fuel with the speed you can flip the prop by hand. To transport it I stole another idea where I used sheet of regular heavy plywood and attached fixed gear and some dowels to go into the fuse where the wing goes and drilled holes in ply to use wing attach bolts. I don't put the wheels on the landing gear because I don't want it rolling one iota in the car. Works out great.
I'll try to remember to weigh it next time ready to fly.

Thought I would share that my Ozark Queen took Best Post 1941 at Spacecity Warbirds just outside of Houston this past Saturday.
I have about 4gal of fuel through the engine and I can tell it is really starting to pull her around. Hands down the best flying plane I have ever flown.
