Any sources for functioning gear at a reasonable price? Always wanted to go that on the last one.

Picked up a "UMX Carbon cub" this weekend. Geez its little!!!

CUB MAN...… I am in Lexington at the corvette track going in often and bought into the track. Beautiful part of the country!
Thats the way I look at it. Kits are made for building, not storing. The way I see it, since kits are no longer made like they used to be, finding a good kit to build is the icing on the cake. For me the joy of this hobby is more the building than the flying. I enjoy flying a lot, but love the building, because the end result is taking off flying around and then landing something I created from a box of wood. Now that I have a few builds done, looking for some plans for either a P-61 or a B-25, in the .91FS range. When I finish what i have now though, there are plans for an original Goldberg Cub that I have from a kit I built but never finished, 20 something years ago. The plane is long gone, sold it mostly built, but kept the plans. Going to use them to build me another one.

I would like to add a note here for anyone wanting to build from plans. If a truly scale Cub is what your after then you have got to do yourself a favor and get a set of plans from Cubman, http://thecubden.org/store/index.php...=index&cPath=3. They don't get any better than his. He has included templates for making everything, scale hinging, scale door, scale, scale, scale.

I have the Hangar 9 1/4 Super Cub and really like how this Plane came being an ARF. I removed the N Numbers and was getting ready to cut new ones and then decided to recover the plane in Fabric. Since I am going thru that effort I am going to change the Color scheme a bit. My Question for you guy's is about the Cowling. Has anyone of you done this yet and if so what paint did you find compatible with what is on the cowling, I would hate to sand this down and spray it only to have the new paint attack the original.
Thanks guy's.

acerc Thanks for the plug on the plans. Still slowly working on the Super cub plans

I did a goldbburg cub about 10 years ago, and the die cutting did not match up. Had to trim part of the back of the wing sadle so the wing would be at the proper angle. So check that everything lines up on the plans

Charles that was no plug, just the truth. I have been doing this for nearly forty years and have never seen plans like yours. The attention to detail and scale the likes of none.

Hey I'm wondering if anyone knows when the Goldberg Anniversary Cub originally came out? Was it out in the early-mid eighty's?

Thanks,
J

Surprised I forgot to ask for a number! looks like #202 is next?

I picked up a 1/4 scale clipped wing Cub at the WRAM show several years ago and thought it was a Sig.

After borrowing plans form a friend the two piece wing design doesn't match, though his was for the full size wing, not sure if that would make a difference. I will post a picture later tonight, maybe someone will recognize the kit maker.

Had a tired OS .90 FS in the nose, im going to swap that with a Kalt G22.

Thanks,
Bill S.

J,

I think the Goldberg Anniversary Cub came out in the 70s I know it was around when I started in R/C. You would be surprised how far back some of these kit designs go.

I think you want to get in contact with Anthony, aka WacoNut. I believe he was pretty impressed with the kit.

I built one also, very complete kit, I used a DLE 55. They now have the rear exhaust, would be a perfect engine. I cheated and put washout in the wings. 5/8 at aileron tip. Will not stall, well, almost won't. U will not be disappointed. Buy lots of glue and solarTex. Send me a pm and I will give ya my phone number if I can answer any more questions.

See if you can find a kit that has the plans in blue ink and check the copyright date. The last one I got
is in black ink and it says 1985. This was the second plane that I built when I started in rc. I am pretty
sure I was building them before then.

Hey guys check this out. Last night I dreamed I built a home built J-3 cub. It didn't
have any control sticks in it. I was flying it in the back seat with a transmitter. Then I
woke up.

Cub Flyer Fresno,
I'll do that thank's. The AMR Kit looks impressive and I like the fact that it is A laser cut kit. The 1/3 Busa seems to have more scale Fidelity.

Iowbubba,
Thanks for the info................I know all about lots of Glue and Solortex, I will definitely be in touch if this is the rout I take.

Any ideas what kind of paint Hangar 9 uses on there cowlings?

Who are you referring too acerc ???.... me or cubcrasher? lol... those Paolo Severin kits are expensive, way out of my price range; but for the price, the fuse comes assembled and pre-brazed... it would be a challenge to build one from scratch off his plans, brazing and all, but it would be one that sat on display mostly... I'd be too afraid to fly it after all the time spent on building it... but thanks to Cub Man's "Cub Den" he has inspired me to make this Sig cub a bit more scale like, a great source of information to anyone interested in adding scale details... thanks CubMan!

I still have a set of the blue plans from the first Cub i built back in the late 80's early 90's. It shows the Chicago address.

Anywho, my SIG cub is coming along nicely, got a few hours into it last night on the left wing. Need to finish the tip, one piece of sheeting and some shaping and sanding and the tip will be done, then the aileron and servo mount, then I can move onto the right wing.

I am really enjoying how this kit builds.

Thanks FlyerInOKC, looks like someone else got #202, lol.

My project is coming along slowly... we're recovering the cub in solartex (had 21st century on it) adding rib stitching and pink-it rib / perimeter tape... I've just completed modifying the wings for the Hanger 9 scale wing struts, and installed the robart cub landing gear... I have on order one of Jerry Cotters scale scotts tailwheels... when we first built the plane, we did not cut out the door... but we may follow Cub Man's instructions on his web site and reinforce the fuselage with 5/32 music wire then cut out the door and finish out the cockpit... we'll get there a piece at a time.

John M,
