    RE: ***CUB BROTHERHOOD***

    ORIGINAL: crash bandicoute

OMG... kind of off the subject, but it pertains to my cub. i just started recovering my cub today, using koverall and stix-it. this stuff is awesome!!! i'm not ever going back to monkeykote!!! i got the tail feathers and the horizontal stab and door completed. when i was removing the monkeykote from the cabin back to the tail, i broke the top-side stringers or they got broke from the crash, so i have to replace those before i can cover the fuse and vertical stab. i'm going to try covering with a single piece, so as to look actual ''scale''. just thought i should throw this out there for anyone who has never used fabric. i was leary at first, but like i said, it's a little more of a process, but, i have no wrinkles, creases, NOTHING!!! if you're skeptical, go for it. a cub in monkey- or ultrakote just ain't right. i appologize for my previous monkey-koted cub and promise to never do it again.Β* [img][/img]Β* setting up for rib stitching shinanigans next. it's going to be insignia blue, marine markings. DO THE FABRIC!!!
You are quite corret. There is absolutely nothing that matches or even comes close to a proper doped, fabric finish. Not only do you not have wrinkles now, you never will either.

If you take one piece of covering to do half the fuselage top and the same side of the vertical fin in one go and another piece to do the other side the same way, you will have the correct scale appearance to the covering for the fillet at the fin. If you need pix and a detailed explanation, you can get those from the Sig manual for their 1/4 size Cubs, which are available for download at the Sig website. It's much easier to do than finding manuals at Sig's site.

    Hi Guys,

Count me in. Just a H9 1/5 Scale Cub with floats. I ripped off the decals and put my own on. Now it's a Navy NE-1. Does that kick me out of the Cub Club before I even get a chance to join? What number am I (or would I have been?? )

Sorry guys for the delay on the L-4 plans. I now have access to Inventor 2009 pro and I'm trying to get the files converted over. this will be best as it allows me to design the plane in 3D very cool but i'm at a learning curve as I have never used inventor. Any inventor users out in the cub world?

    RE: ***CUB BROTHERHOOD***

thanks for the photos. they'll help a lot. i've already been browsing the manual for the sig cub kits as well. the only issue i see having with doing mine, is that i already have the horizontal stab installed, so i will be using paper to make templates for each section before rough cutting the fabric. it's either that or i do the top from the side stringers up, each half, then do each side from there down. does it matter 'scale wise' where the pinked tape goes on the fuselage? i see from the photos above where it was installed, but i haven't seen actual aircraft photos of where it is, and can't see well enough on any aircraft on airliners.net. did you use some scale outline for applying it?

    Crash,
The tapes went over the fabric where it contacted the fuse structure ie: all the longerons and stringers. It is also around the door openings. If you piece the faric for the top and keep you overlap to the minimum the reinforcement tapes will cover the seams. All the seams on my Cub are hidden under tapes. Makes for a very scale appearance and also keep any edges from lifting on you forever.
    Later!!

Nice job on the fin. When you cover that fin there are areas where one does NOT want the fabric to adhere to the wood. Somebody told me to color that area you do NOT want the covering to adhere with a yellow crayon. Like magic, the covering will not adhere on that area.

Nice job. My 1/4 scale cub is covered in 21 century fabric. I love that stuff, it is very easy to use, and it is pre-painted, saving a lot of weight. Besides, it never wrinkles...

jkr 1100, it is a sig 1/4 clipped.
GerKong, I only attatch the fabric to the perimeter. After that when I spray the adhesive/filler it will adhere the fabric only where it is touching wood.
