My Cub is getting closer to finished! Finished painting the wing panels, and started painting the struts after polishing the brass tubing. All the windows are done, including the painting of the top window. Got all the servos now so I can finish the radio install, and its ready to fly.

Hi Guys,
I am refurbishing my AMR kit built 1/3 J-3 Cub, had a little mishap with a shelf falling in my trailer. The plane was covered in Solartex but I am doing a fabric cover and Stits process finish this time around. Here is a link to my overhaul thread if you are interested.

Proud Papa Bear here, have a 7 pound 11 ounce Cub. Balanced out with no additional weight, Battery pack right on CG. Just have to hook up the controls, and finish the windscreen.

Need to get an angle shot that shows the struts blending in with the forward fuse.

Very nice acdii...

Looking at the second image, it looks like there's a positive twist in the right wing out to the wing tip... it may just be an optical illusion due to the camera angle... but wouldn't hurt to check it if you have an incidence meter.

Good eye. That wing has a slight twist that I cant get out. If it becomes a flying issue I will just make another wing. I have another wing kit for making clipped wings. I dont know how it twisted, it was nice and flat when it was built, but I think between building it and covering it, it gained that slight twist. The Aileron also has a slight twist in the opposite direction which really makes it look twisted. I built the wings at my friends barn, and covered them in my shop, so maybe going from one shop to the other with different humidity levels caused it. I have one clipped wing built and that one twisted, but I know how that one twisted, I painted one side with Stix-it, and didn't finish the other side in time. I was able to remove the twist in that one though since it hasn't been covered yet. The wing on the plane got covered before I noticed the twist. I had it all tacked down, then discovered it had a twist, so I put an opposite twist in it before shrinking which took most of it out. Too bad its in the wrong direction, as it would make good washout. Now it has anti washout. I will just have to watch for tip stall on that side now, and adjust for it.

A little trim adjustment should fix it. I've had a twist before and it was not a biggie.

[QUOTE=acdii;11927856]Good eye. That wing has a slight twist that I cant get out..../QUOTE]

Forgot what your cover and finish are, but if fabric and dope, maybe have someone hold the wing at opposite twist and apply another coat of dope, maybe even clear, if dope was your finish. Hold the twist until it dries. If another "paint" maybe hold an opposite twist and heat with a heat gun. This has worked for me with silk and dope, and unpainted Solartex; and with unpainted (of course) Monokote, Good luck. If neither works, add a "trim" tab to the trailing edge of the offending wing, or twist the aileron to offset the wing twist. Real planes have trim tabs to "fix" inaccuracies in the build process. Many planes have off spec wings and fuses.
Sincerely, Richard

If worse comes to worse, rather than building another wing, you can always recover that wing panel.... somewhere along the line during the covering process, you may have over shrunk the koverall, or as the dope dried and caused the twist...as long as you're aware of it makes me feel better.
